Yesterday’s garden harvest is now 10 pints of tomato sauce, 3 pints of salsa, and a whole bunch of cucumbers and peppers that we will eat, freeze, and give away. Gardening is a lot of work, and so is processing —but we’re always happy we did it when we have a full freezer and pantry in the winter.

The reason I enjoy being on Bluesky and the wider AT Proto (including now Offprint) is, with some effort you can curate the experience you want to have here. Example: my feed is full of thoughtful, nuanced, and generally positive comments about @toni.bsky.team and @reckless.bsky.social on Decoder.

Using AI tools, and particularly working with local AI models, gives me kind of the same feeling I used to get exploring the early 90s internet. I love it. I built a PC this year for the first time in 20 years, I got back into Linux. Tech is fun again.

Ok, agree in general that you should be careful about posting personal information anywhere, but unless I’m misunderstanding, there’s no evidence that anything private was indexed that the user didn’t hit the “share” button on. Still not great, but understandable if you’ve ever used the internet.

Just used ChatGPT voice mode with my phone camera to ID a caterpillar - which is nothing to post about - but it told me not to touch it because of skin irritation. I said that I hadn’t. It’s response: “Well you live another day”. That made me laugh. Guess these things *can* be funny.

Dvorak was one of the first people I remember reading when I started getting into tech in the 90s and I watched him often on TechTV. I just came across one of his books in my collection last week (“Online!” written with Chris Pirillo). Met him once. He was nice to me. Very sad news.

I'm not a developer. I use AI to help manage my small business. Apart from which model is currently winning and which frontier lab is least weird (they all have their moments), I find Claude's interface to work best for what I do. I tried, but the new ChatGPT Work app gave me a headache this week.

15ish years ago a woman I was “Facebook friends” with posted on my timeline “Every time I hear this song I think of you”. I did not know her well and we never had any delight at any time of day. I never figured out why she posted that but I had to do some damage control with my then partner.

Every time I have to log into “the everything app”: I’m met with a for you feed that’s completely made up. Some AI, some not. All wrong. Someone then asks Grok if it’s true, and to Grok’s credit, it says “no that’s not true”. But the damage is done. Bluesky ain’t perfect but happy to be here.

I used to work with an HR person who was so efficient that she'd already have a job listing posted and three interviews scheduled before I was mentally prepared to think through the process. That's what my Fable 5 experience has been this week.

This is what i did. I’ve been a Zorin OS user that twice paid for the “Pro” version to support them. I’ve been putting the new Ubuntu on my builds and I love it. I’m not a typical Linux user. Not that technical. Design, finish, and experience are most important. Ubuntu 26 feels great to me.

I don’t know. I understand why a seasoned Linux user would prefer Fedora for all the reasons in this article. I test-drove both the new Fedora and the new Ubuntu on my new machine and Ubuntu is what I kept. I like the dock. I like the feel, the design, the finish. I think it’s great.
