Today's badass #HerStory is the Code Girls. More than 10K women served as cryptographers/analysts during WWII & were a vital part of the Allied Forces victory. Recruited in secrecy with no official roster, it has been impossible to track down most individuals & the details of their service.

Today's badass #HerStory is Boudicca. Warrior Queen of the Iceni people who lead an uprising against the Roman Empire (61 CE) & destroyed the capital of Roman Britain before being defeated. She is believed to have poisoned herself to avoid Roman retribution & is a symbol of justice & independance.

Today's badass #HerStory: The Soldaderas (Adelitas). Women who fought in the Mexican Revolution (1910-20), a struggle for land & civil liberties that ended the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz. Many served traditonal roles as nurses & wives, but others took up arms, some becoming COs & "coronelas"

Today's badass #HerStory is Zheng Yi Sao. After her husband died she took over his pirate confederation, eventually negotiating her own surrender & retirement in 1810 after conflicts w the East India Company, Portuguese Empire, & Great Qing. She is one of the most successful pirates in history.

Today's badass #HerStory is Julie d'Aubigny (Mademoiselle Maupin): A French opera singer & fencer who regularly dressed as a man, had many bisexual affairs & won several duels with angry men whose women she took as lovers. She is believed to have died in 1707 after the death of her soul mate.

Today's badass #HerStory: Virginia Woolf Best known for her feminist essays & novels, such as "A Room of One's Own" which made the case for Women's suffrage. Due to the time period, she also suffered from untreated mental illness & committed suicide by drowning in 1941.

Today's badass #HerStory is: The suffragists (a derogatory term that was embraced). Women who fought for the right to vote using petitions, marches, public meetings & protests. In 1920 the 19th Amendment was ratified, giving white women the right to vote (this did not apply to BIPOC until 1965).
