Rocky's Human

I am a mid 50's grognard who has been playing RPG's, tabletop wargames and painting minis for a long time. My hands are shaky, my eyes don't focus as well as they used to, but I still love painting minis, but not as well as I used to.

Playing some Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion game to relax this afternoon. A lot of fun. A cooperative tacticle RPG minis game that I have had for a bunch of years and not gotten to the table. Since it is cooperative and the monsters actions are defined by the game and scenarios, it plays solo well.

Some light reading this afternoon. I got this several years ago when it first was published and never got around to reading it. Resolving that issue today. Love the movie series. Pretty much love everything with Bruce Campbell in it. I even watched Dusk til Dawn 2 hoping he would have more time

Playing some OPR Grimdark Future on my Friday off. I like the OPR rules. It is a simple system without bloat. Pretty brutal and definitely a beer and pretzels level of complexity. I really like games with alternating activations over "I go you go" activations. This is the Kickstarter core set

I am a klutz by nature. When minis are sculpted to be true, things like spears are weak and my big meaty paws can damage them. So... with a Wowstick pen drill and a little bit of brass rod... stuff gets fixed. Now to prime a d paint the brass and continue with the project.

Thks morning's read. I love the concept of Chaosium's Pendragon RPG much more than I like the game. The knights of King Arthur's Camelot make a compelling tale, but the game's focus on honorable knights is a fabrication and anachronistic at best. Still... the setting is compelling.

Taking a break from assembling Armored Clash Enlightened minis to sit outside with the dogs while they sun. Reading this little gem. I have lots of boxes of stuff for Epic Hail Caeser... most needing paint. So many minis. So little time

Trust the process is something I need to do e ery time I oil wash minis. Pics of Victrix Rus armored warrior. First pic is base paint. Second Pic is glopped with oil wash. Third Pic is after drying an hour and some removal. Now let them cure for 2 days then add details.

This afternoon's read. Écorcheurs which is supposedly pronounced "Ay-core-sure" 100 years war, 1337 to 1453. I am probably going to use my Barons' War minis from about 100 years earlier. If any of you timecops need to arrest me for non-compliance... Good luck finding me.

Some Kings of War 3rd Edition on the table. The minis on the left are GW night goblins with some added green stuff to be a regiment of goblins wearing clown fish and banana armor. Why? Because they are goblins.

Oooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!! 15 mm epic Zulu vs. British in the 1870's. Thousands of tiny minis each one standing just over 1/2 inch tall to paint. One of my favorite historical settings. Take my money!

I generally don't post political posts on social media. But this came in the mail today. American Dictator game. A monopoly style game from Canada where the players essentially try to make as much profit as possible from their political appointments. I have no idea what influenced the design.

So this came in the mail. I have a boatload of unassembled and unpainted minis for a Crusades campaign. I figure the book will become hard to get at some point. I need to get a physical copy of Death and Taxes also. I do really enjoy the Barons' War game.

I *DO NOT NEED* more fucking minis to paint or another fucking miniatures game to get in to. However. Warlord Games is teasing a 15 mm epic scale Zulu conflict game. This would be sooooooooo satisfying on so many levels.

Plastic model detail comparison. Warlord Games Viking Hirdman on the left, Victrix Armored Rus Infantry on the right. The WG sprue contains 4 bodies. The V sprue contains 6 bodies. Much better detail on the V sprues. Not really that much cost difference. Victrix and Perry are my favorites

The next game for the table is Bonefields. I love the minis. The game seems pretty straightforward. I just wish there was more support for it from Hayland Terrain. The dwark (pink) and goblin (green) undead minis have a design style that appeals to me. Slightly old school a d goofy looking.

A local game store liquidated a big selection of an old tabletop miniatures game a few years ago. A lot of nice chunky metal mi is in a style that appealed to me. I didn't care about the game, but ar $2 to $3 per mini, I picked up a bunch so I could have some non-standard monsters on the table

Just arrived. My birthday present I won't open for about six weeks. Pillage rulebook and two war bands from Victrix. Do I need another miniatures wargame? Do I need more little plastic minis to paint? Why. Yes. I do. I can stop any time. Really. I can.
