What can I say, my sisters were hippies, and somehow I’m still living off that optimism. … and did you know that you can never have a sensible conversation with someone you belittle?

I’ve no problem with changing the name “soccer” to “football,” but first we have to change the sport we call “football” here to “missile ball.”

FIFA 2016 ranked Canada’s men 120th. Ten years later they made it to the round of 16 at the World Cup! Let that sink in for a minute. We’ve come a very long way.

Please don’t look down on me for saying “soccer” instead of “football.” It’s not because I’m ignorant of the sport, it’s my dialect. I grew up playing a game called soccer. If we had called it football, it would have been confusing, because football was the name of another sport.

The cheaters got into the heads of American fans, many of whom no longer wanted their team to win. They got into the heads of the players, who no longer played with the same drive. Before Trump’s intervention many neutrals wanted the US to win. But cheater in chief united us against them.

I just saw a World Cup ad in which a man wakes up to an alarm he has set in order to bet on an early morning game. If the first thing you do upon waking is to start betting, you are a gambling addict. We are normalizing, encouraging and facilitating gambling addiction.

Toronto cancelled the WC Portugal-Croatia public viewing at Nathan Philips Square. Pity. The game starts at seven. We no longer have direct sun. It’s tolerable and it would have been an epic party. At school, I’ve seen too many “indoor lunches” and canceled activities due to “inclement weather.”

I hope all my country folks enjoyed a good post game glow after Canada beat South Africa to advance to the round of sixteen. Good vibrations brothers and sisters!

Watching the World Cup, I see a million ads for sports gambling. There are so many young men throwing away their money in this foolish activity. The odds are never in their favor. Zero public service announcements about gambling addiction. Someone please tell them it’s a big con. Teach it in school.

The PQ announced today that they are opposed to the construction of a high speed rail from Quebec City to Ottawa. This project, funded entirely by the federal government, will not proceed if they are elected. In Canada, nothing ever gets done because of petty, internal bickering.

Costco Canada has discontinued normal Cheerios and doesn’t sell any cereal that isn’t chalked full of sugar. A giant chain and they can’t offer one healthy option. Costco also charges more for unsalted than for salted nuts. These are examples of how they don’t support healthy eating.

As a Canadian when my country is co-hosting the World Cup, I am appalled that the president of FIFA created a bogus peace prize for a man who threatened to annex my country.
