If a city tells you they have $100M to construct the largest police training facility in the country in the middle of a global pandemic, but the only way to fund grocery stores, hospitals, transit, and schools is to borrow money from your children’s futures…it is OK to have questions and concerns.

Politicians want to be celebrities so bad that they forgot how to have a real policy debate. Instead of using data and lived experience to work through nuance, they’re spending millions on marketing and lawsuits to fight advocates and researchers. Our communities deserve so much better.

Gun violence is a public health crisis in Atlanta. It is the consequence of ineffective public policy. The answer is not to villainize festivals, birthday parties, or community gatherings. Policy requires coordinated, intentional, and focused public intervention and investment.

The boldest and most courageous part of Dr. King’s legacy was not just his words, but his unwavering commitment to transformative—and deeply unpopular—social and economic public policies. When I ran, I was inspired by his audacity, which was viewed as a threat to power—in many ways, it still is.

Grateful for electeds who speak out against ICE violence. Angry at those who excuse it. Most alarmed by those who do nothing. Atlanta must use every tool—funding, trainings, legal support—to protect our people. Inaction costs lives. Renee Nicole Macklin Good should be alive. Silence is complicity

This is the danger of political logic: justify a wrong thing by referencing a bad thing and claim that anyone against the wrong thing is OK with the bad thing. Politicians won’t save us, but electing the wrong people creates irreversible damage that will have consequences for generations. #nowar

~1.5 million people in Georgia rely on SNAP benefits— 50,000 veterans. Hundreds of veterans in Atlanta experience homelessness. Veterans face urgent gaps in care. On #VeteransDay, governments must not just use veterans in profile photos, but commit to them through more effective public policy. 🇺🇸

Thank you, Atlanta, for the little rooms. OutKast reminds us how much work goes into creating something that matters. Not just in the music they made, but how they made it: as Misfits. We all felt pride and fight in André 3000’s speech 30 years ago. Hard not to feel that all over again last night.
