The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).

A mathematics consortium has published a list of actions to address the use of AI in their field. It may be a good idea for @cvprconference.bsky.social @neuripsconf.bsky.social @iclr-conf.bsky.social and other ML, CV, NLP groups to work on a similar, cohesive proposal for our extended community.

Bluesky isn't a bubble or an echo chamber, it's a garden. You plant some seeds and pull some weeds, you tend to it with care, and you make it into a space that pleases you when you come to sit in it a while. Other people can plant and tend to their own gardens, if they like. This garden is yours.

I asked ChatGPT to tell me what success rates for grant programs would be considered okay for researcher mental health. A shocking embarrassment for Australia. Damage is being done on a daily basis. Urgent action is required.

COVID-19 is “Airborne AIDS”: provocative oversimplification, emerging science, or something in between? While SARS-CoV-2 doesn’t cause HIV/AIDS, its immune dysfunction, T cell depletion, vulnerability to infections, accelerated aging, and systemic damage echo AIDS-like effects in a broader sense.
