I'm Generation X, but I remember childhood in florida was so much more violent than what I see going on in SF or even oakland today. is it just my imagination? like fistfights & racial stuff (white power skinheads vs Puerto Ricans etc) was pretty normal. kids today seem less violent

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
what's confusing to people who grew up working class is that long-term stuff like surfing & bicycling is actually cheaper than most sports - it's just the up front costs. once you get the kit, you don't have to pay $$$. and the community is SOOOO good

I’m still mystified at why grocery food is so superior in even poorer Oakland & Berkeley than around the marina. Isn’t the point of rich people to make fabulous erewohn exist? There isn’t even an arizmendi bakery near ft mason or incredible produce or a delightful cheese store
