Today on TTB, I got to write about one of my favorite new games, how it upholds the legacy of the sort of play-by-post roleplaying that got me into this hobby, and shaped me as a writer. As an added bonus, it also includes written Actual Play transcripts w the dev, @notwritinggames.bsky.social

A big philosophy for me so far in working on this game has been “consolidation.” Cutting chaff, combining similar mechanics, and simplifying where I can So I’m thinking about cutting down damage randomization

Running in person? Marathon 10+ hour sessions. When I’m in a groove I can kinda just go and go and go Running online? 4 hours. There just isn’t the same energy carrying me through. Playing? 4 hours.

Hey #ttrpgCommunity! What's the ideal session length for you? 2 hours? 3-4 hours? Marathon 6+ hour sessions? And does it vary based on whether you're playing in-person vs online? #ttrpg #dnd #rpg #ttrpgsky

Got stuck in the midst of creating new enemy procedures and realized I needed to flesh out some of what the content for Footfall 1e should look like first That being said, it already seems WAY easier and quicker to make enemies under the new system

Fundamentally disagrees that games should be played to know how they run. This is is the same type of dipshittery as saying, "Playtesting is unnecessary, as my designs are always perfect". Dude thinks he's more capable than then entire RPG industry because they play it to see how it runs.

Comment from Reddit from someone who posted a RPG review about a game they didn't play.

Text Reads: "I know Seth Skorkowsky and some other reviewers believe things should be played before they’re reviewed to see how they run at the table, but I fundamentally disagree with that. I know for a fact that I can make anything a blast to play at my table for my players. The question is how much effort will it take to make it a blast for them, and to RUN at the table, and that is very easy to know by reading it.

If that doesn’t ring true to your experience then just treat it as any other book review since it is at base a book I have read"

Okay, I’ve redesigned task resolution, skill importance, and now the entire structure of stealth. Next up is redesigning Enemies (making them easier to cook up on the fly) and porting over content Footfall 1e is on its way to testing already! (I promise I’ll get out that adventure soon)
