Cross-party support in action with @chrisbloore.bsky.social and Dr Caroline Johnson both proposing amendments to the Health Bill asking @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social to publish a clear plan, with milestones, for how she'll deliver the govt's longstanding promise for universal osteoporosis clinics.

I’ve tabled an amendment supported across the House to the Health Bill to turn pledges on Fracture Liaison Services into real action.

Redrawing NHS boundaries doesn't create new Fracture Liaison Services - we look forward to working with @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social & Diana Johnson to end the postcode lottery in access to these vital services, which disproportionately affects women and older people. More - https://bit.ly/4wsGQ87

Is Labour using bogus figures to claim it has hit bone clinic targets?

The Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS), whose president is Queen Camilla, has written to the statistics watchdog to complain that Labour is using bogus figures.

We’ve written to the Office for Statistics Regulation over concerns that Government figures give a misleading picture of progress on Fracture Liaison Services. As Dr Madhavi Vindlacheruvu says, “Redrawing NHS boundaries does not create a single new Fracture Liaison Service.”

Wales: +191%. England: +3%. That is the difference a clear plan, modest investment and ministerial backing can make. Yvette Cooper has inherited an FLS commitment. We look forward to working with her and the Department of Health and Social Care to get England moving. https://bit.ly/4fORDEP

Backlash as England trails Wales on low-cost fracture clinics

Since 2024, The Mail on Sunday and the Royal Osteoporosis Society have campaigned for full access across the UK to these bone-thinning clinics to help prevent life-changing fractures.

New data published today by The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities recognises long-term MSK conditions as a national population health issue. But bone health, falls and fracture prevention are still too often missing from the prevention agenda.

England’s 65+ population - the group most at risk of osteoporotic fractures - rose by 216,200 in just one year. An ageing country needs serious fracture prevention otherwise costs will spiral. Not afterthoughts. Not postcode lotteries. Proper services. (1/2)
