We grilled chicken thighs for dinner, and now I want to grill 5 pounds of chicken thighs once a week forever. What other protein do I need, really? Oh, other than my new favorite snack: cottage cheese topped with salsa as a dip for rice crackers.
I think this is a powerful insight. I’ve actually been thinking a lot about how my life might change if I just eliminated the internet entirely from my day to day life. Like, not get rid of credit cards, but stop reading news online, stop my remaining social media. Read the thread though.
The first is *why*? Why are people in power such easy converts to this religious mania? I have my own theory. The most important discomfort that powerful people experience is having ego-shattering conflicts with subordinates who know how to do things they do not know how to do. 61/
The United States president hates us more than a country he randomly started a war with.
Trump: "We heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."
I’m rewatching The Commitments in memory of Glen Hansard. He was the same age as me, and I just can’t believe he’s gone.
I made the King Arthur Flour bake of the week from last week, no bake chocolate cheesecake bars. I subbed Glutino sandwich cookies to make them gluten free. They were quite nice! I could have added more salt. I was surprised how firm they were! 9-10, will make again.
A thing that was recently news to me is that fainting looks a lot like a seizure sometimes. You can tell the difference by how fast the recovery takes. If the fainter is basically fine and talking a few minutes later, fainting. If they are super out of it for 15-25 minutes, maybe a seizure.
What's a good procedure for folks when someone experiences a fainting? Is putting a pillow under their head and clearing space around them a good start?
Does anyone have an air fryer/toaster oven opinion that is small? Now that I’m fully committed to retirement and van life, I want an appliance that does it all, looks cute, and will give me gf toast, half pan of muffins for my husband, and crispy tater tots! (or, good roast chicken thighs.)
And also, she has no party loyalty and nothing but disdain for the actual voters! She is hurting our nominated candidate to the Republicans advantage with her horrendous adds!
- Craig was already going to have tough sledding to explain her constant dabbling with Republicans and entanglements with cryptocurrency/health insurance companies/AIPAC in a state that goes solid blue for federal office, but the Laken Riley vote was the nail in her coffin. She is despised for that.
- Flanagan has been elected to state office since 2016 and has a strong reputation among local electeds - Craig jumped straight from the private sector to federal office - Craig deserves some credit for winning in a swing district (although she barely outperformed Harris in 2024)
I need put some Minnesota Senate race thoughts into a post that I can reference for out-of-state folks who keep getting this wrong: - Angie Craig is to the right of state DFL and was even before her Laken Riley vote - This is not establishment vs. insurgent. Peggy Flanagan is a two-term Lt. Governor
Whilst I was fleeing the heat up north the city put speed bumps on my street. I’m quite looking forward to sitting on my front porch watching people who can’t see the bump signs engage in shenanigans.
The Star Tribune is blaming the forest service, but I’m dubious. But anyway, a clear retraction, the BECAW is only closed through July 24 for now.
The Star Tribune posted on Instagram that the BWCAW is closed till Oct. 1. That doesn’t seem right, and I can’t find further information. Anyone know what’s up?
Someone in my neighborhood is chain sawing and I can’t figure out what they’re doing! They start the saw, rev, rev, rev, then make a very brief cut, then turn the saw off for 5-10 minutes. It’s been going on for at least 2 hours. I’m so curious.
Please, I beg of you, listen while the election judge explains the ballot to you. You can only vote in one column! Non partisan races are on the back.
You can only vote for 1 political party in this primary, so pick a column, and only vote for one party. If you make a mistake, that’s ok, bring to election judge and get a new ballot.
Minneapolis! Do you have your voting plan in place for the Aug 11th primary? Out of town then? Vote early! vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/vote-...

My aerobics teacher played the best music today, Respect, Brick House, etc. But now I’ve got Tennessee Whiskey as an ear worm. It was Silver Sneakers. I’m retired, so I exercise at old people o’clock.
Oof, note to self, nothing to be gained trying to have a calm discussion with someone who’s already throwing around insults and heated language. Just block.
At what AQI are you turning off your air filters and opening up your house? We don’t have air conditioning, and my inclination is to wait till I can’t smell smoke to open the house, but my husband is hot and also has no sense of smell and wants to open up now.
Just as with immigration, moving right on this issue only legitimizes the conservative position, shifting the Overton window without attracting any new voters. The numbers of swing voters that would switch their vote to a Dem only if they oppose trans people in sports is basically nonexistent.
My husband and I did a Lake Superior circle tour last summer. Particularly in the north east area of the lake in Ontario we noticed SO MANY dead pine trees. I honestly think this is going to continue until all those dead trees are burned.
I just had such a wave of overwhelm. Just, Covid, the uprising, the last few years of fires, my dad dying, the occupation, not feeling like I can eat salads or fresh fruit because of parasites, now the AQI, and the place I love most in the whole world is burning up. It’s too much.
Apparently the guy at Menards laughed at my husband when he asked about air filters. They are totally out of all kinds, including the ones to make CR boxes out of. No air filters for us.
What’s our plan here Minnesota friends? I’ve been sleeping hugging a big ice pack, even though we don’t have AC our house is shut up tight. We have one air purifier with an old filter running. Should I go buy the equipment to make a box filter? Go to a mall? Drive my van to Sioux Falls?
I was just having this conversation with a childhood friend.
I am not a climate scientist but when I was a kid the number of times we couldn’t go outside because of Canadian wildfire smoke was zero times
