genuinely don't know how “persist this rust state struct, give me safe snapshots/updates, and let me evolve it with explicit type-checked migrations” isn't already a solved small-app abstraction. all the pieces exist, but apparently not quite this combination.

We're well into the process of converting the Messaging app included in GrapheneOS into a modern app. We'll be making a new release later today with a completely overhauled user interface written in Android Compose. We've made a massive amount of other improvements and bug fixes beyond that too.

My hot take is that we’ve been making software too fast for our own good, even before LLMs. They’re just the nail in the coffin. I think we’ll end up putting a lot more effort into the foundations: common language standards, tighter specs, and proving more of the stuff everything else depends on.
