Not in every regard, no. She hadn't been trapped in a loveless marriage, for one. She had no doubt that one had been suggested at some point, but someone had had the good sense to stop the suggestion from being made to her face, or maybe they just hadn't been able to catch up to her yet.

Like her mother, the other half of her soul had been ripped away - her twin in her case, her mother's wife in hers. Very different loves, obviously, but the most important loves of each of their lives.

But even beyond that sad similarity, there was... for all she had been born and raised without Amethar Rocks in her life, it turned out that like Jet, Saccharina had taken much more after their father. Not in terms of their abilities, of course, but.. Both of them were born leaders, getting people to follow them off the strength of their personality alone. Jet would have grown to be the same, Ruby knew, had always been the one of them worth following.

Ruby had never wanted to be that, and found as she grew older she wanted it less and less, and so instead she was doing the quiet things to make certain that her half-sister could keep doing the loud ones and could keep that throne and Ruby would never have to even think about occupying it. The difference, she really hoped, would be that she would not miss a Calroy the way her mother had in her grief.

The arrow parts were easy to obtain, but trying to make them come together into something workable is an evil little process. She messes up the binding cord twice - wrapping it too loose the first time, then getting strands of her hair painfully trapped in the flax thread on the second.
“Lapin,” she whines, “I don’t have to redo it all just because it got a bit of my braid in it! Right?”
The Chancellor of Castle Candy looks down at her from the doorway. His face is weather-worn, craggy and familiar. Ruby and Jet have joked before about that expression he gets when he’s exasperated with them, where his eyebrows go up into the stratosphere until they form a squiggly line straight across his forehead.
The angry caterpillar, Jet had dubbed it the other day, nodding her head sagely. A smile had flickered at the corner of her mouth like a stray flame. It is a most terrible sign! It portends doom and disaster!
And us getting grounded, Ruby had chipped in. Again.
Exactly!

Caramelinda's badly concealed smile made Amanda forget all about the jesting and the memory of her and the Archmage’s encounter. It may as well have been her favorite thing in all of Calorum, seeing her smile and being its source. She could not understand why anyone would give it up, anyone, even the Archmage. It always confused Amanda– the way that Lazuli had the ability to make Caramelinda laugh the way she did, pure and unapologetic, and still left her.

Amanda could curse her over and over again.

Yet she, for all her trying, could never make Caramelinda smile the way she did that night. There would always be something held back, some form of exhaustion or melancholy or grief. There was a lightness in Caramelinda’s gaze, the night Amanda first laid eyes on her, that did not return after the Archmage died. And it would be the greatest tragedy of Amanda’s life, that she was able to see Caramelinda at her happiest and never be able to see it again.

And then, nearly a month after she first disappeared, she returns.
When she opens the door, Oisin's first reaction is to hug her tightly.
She tenses up and doesn't quite relax fully after that, even after Oisin apologizes for getting overexcited.
"How was Fallinel?" He asked, walking with her down the street.
"It is like it always is. Did you get new glasses?"
"Yeah, do you-"
Oisin can't even finish the offer before Ivy is taking them off of him and putting them on herself.
"Your vision is truly horrendous. What do you think?"
"I missed you." He said and she peered at him over the glasses.
"Don't get sappy on me, Hakinvar." She scolded before handing the glasses back to him and crossing her arms. "I missed you too."
Oisin mimed throwing up. Ivy rolled her eyes, a smile returning to her face for the first time since she exited her house.
He thinks about telling her about how pretty she looks before quickly dismissing the thought - he wouldn't be telling her anything she didn't already know.
