A sec cal + Buff-breasted Sandpiper was found today at Drift Res. (2nd Aug) by Louis Parkerson. It arrived with two Little Ringed Plover. There are c. 190 records for Cornwall but most are juvs.

A great start to August. Adult White-rumped Sandpiper still present at Drift Res this morning for second day. (1st Aug). Apparently there are seven adults in the uk at the moment.

I was delighted to find a White-rumped Sandpiper this morning at Drift Res. (31st July). Not the big national rarity it once was, but still a great bird in west Cornwall. Cropped digiscoped pics.

Porthgwarra seawatch this am (16th June). Found my second Wilson’s Petrel of the year, fairly close from the cove viewing platform. First signs of return migration with 5 Med Gulls and 2 Sandwich Tern west. Normal numbers of Manx (pic from last week at Pendeen).

Porthgwarra 11th June. Video grab of Great Shearwater and one of the five Sooty Shearwater (NR). From a seven hour morning session. A Wilson’s Petrel also seen at 17:42 plus a third Great Shearwater and 71 Euro S on the afternoon shift. Also 3 Sabine’s from The Lizard. Quite a day.

Manx Shearwater this morning at Pendeen Watch (9th June). Estimate around 60,000 passed the lighthouse this morning (based on one minute sample counts, up to 600 per minute).

Another morning of 000’s of Manx Shearwater passing Pendeen Watch (9th June). iPhone video shows a close up view of the spectacle. I would go as far to say this is a British wildlife spectacle? Barely gets a national mention from the Spring watch type media.

Pendeen Watch seawatch today (8th June). A phenomenal passage of feeding Manx Shearwater passing the lighthouse this morning. One minute sample counts at c. 600 per minute. The video shows one narrow flyway!

Good news. Successful Chough breeding on my local patch with three fledglings confirmed. Early signs of wider success are positive, I’m led believe. #cornwallbirding #birding #ukbirding

Pendeen Watch this morning. (6th June). Challenging conditions and long periods of mist today. Check the sea state for mid summer! Highlights included 4 Sooty Shearwater, 4 Euro Storm, normal ‘000s Manx but missed a Wilson’s Petrel seen from lower car park.

Porthgwarra this morning (5th June). My first Wilson’s Petrel of the year along with 12 Euro Storm Petrel. Decent views well inside the Runnelstone. This follows one seen yesterday off Pendeen Watch. This is my earliest by three weeks.

Woodlark at Porthgwarra 30th May 26. A rare passage migrant in Cornwall, pretty much restricted to Autumn and winter. The last confirmed breeding was 1983. A Spring find is exceptional. @mwallacepg.bsky.social 🤛

The first summer male Kentish Plover still present at Marazion beach today (19th May) for the fourth day. It arrived with c. 300 Sanderlings and other small waders. It’s the 75th record for Cornwall and the second for this site this Spring. #cornwallbirding #ukbirding

Common Whitethroat at Lands End This species is by far the most common warbler in west Penwith. They seem to be everywhere this Spring in suitable habitat. I counted 42 singing males on 27th April in the Land’s End / Treeve patch. #cornwallbirding #birding #ukbirding

Black-winged Stilt today at Brays Cot, Lizard (10th May). This Spring has seen a mini influx of this species. Once a rare vagrant, in the last few years, numbers have increased significantly. #cornwallbirding #ukbirding
