I've had to get multiple buses to get to Milton Keynes this morning, not helped by a cancellation. I eventually managed to pick up an X5 at Bicester Village. If only there was some sort of railway between Oxford and Milton Keynes that made this journey quicker and easier? 🤔

An example of a former diesel bus that has been converted to electric by Wrightbus in Bicester, alongside a brand new Electroliner. The NewPower has up to 385kWh of battery capacity, so less than a new bus, but it costs half as much.

I sold my first £1 discounted travel for school and NHS staff, which has been funded by the revenue collected from the Oxford congestion charge and latterly the traffic filters. A real benefit for Oxfordshire bus users.

Plans for the long-awaited rebuild of Oxford’s railway station are getting underway with “a detailed review of future capacity”, to be followed by public consultation. Network Rail are planning new west-side and east-side entrances as well as improved bus connections for onward travel.

They're cutting the speed limit on my route to and from work, so it's time to go through the motions. For a couple of weeks, I'll probably be annoyed about a few extra of driving minutes every day. Then I'll get over it and wonder how I ever thought the old speed limit was acceptable.

Dutch cycle infrastructure is incredible, and public transport is also very good. But I have found some provision for pedestrians to be poor, sometimes requiring peds to take unnecessary detours whereas cyclists and motorists get a direct route. The photo shows a good pedestrian crossing.

Chiltern are recruiting more staff (that's more potential membership fees for RMT to collect) and existing jobs are not affected. Trains on EWR will have two members of staff onboard. This dispute does no favours to the RMT, and they really need to let this one go.

Guards from the RMT union on (nationalised) Chiltern Railways went on strike last weekend, but with minimal disruption to services. Chiltern has recruited Customer Service Inspectors to serve as a second member of staff on Oxford–MK trains, but the RMT calls this “a significant risk to safety”.

The Spoorwegmuseum is served by an hourly shuttle service from Utrecht Centraal, which stops right outside the entrance to the museum. After calling at Utrecht Overvecht, the train reverses at a junction by the A27 motorway to access to the branch to the museum.

This afternoon I went to the Spoorwegmuseum in Utrecht, which has a selection of locomotives and carriages to look around. If I have one criticism, it's that very few exhibits had any sort of exhibit label to explain their history.
