Many Young Earth Creationists like to argue the Earth is 6000 years old. However, the Jewish Roman historian Josephus writing 2000 years ago expressed the view in the prologue to his Antiquities of the Jews that the Hebrew Bible contained 5,000 years of History.

There are some Christians who seem to get excited when natural disasters like the European wildfires happen because they think it means Jesus is coming soon. What it actually means is that you're doing an awful job of caring for your fellow man by accelerating global warming.

As far as anime is concerned, Digimon was leaps and bounds above the original Pokemon anime. Done rightly, Digimon had actual character development, compelling narratives and better characters. It was and is one of my favorite anime properties.

Greco-Roman jurists believed clarity was important for understanding legal documents. The church fathers argued the Bible was clearly written. Perhaps these ideas may have influenced the idea of Quranic clarity? (The Book of Revelation and its Eastern Commentators, pp. 121-122)

In his Homily on Samson, Jacob of Serugh views Samson killing the lion to typify Christ's conquering of death. Along with being probably one of the most awesome allegorical readings of all time, it also reflects broader Syriac tradition which likens death to a lion or animal:

Do you want to tone down the rhetoric of our present day politics? Then stop listening to people like Hasan Piker, Destiny, Matt Walsh, Tim Poole, or any of the other far left or far right streamers online. They are pushing people to more extreme views and need to be ignored.

Anti-semitism and criticism of the Israeli government are not one in the same thing in all instances. Are Jewish people who oppose the mistreatment of Palestinian civilians anti-semitic? No. Streamers who attack Israel and promote anti-Jewish conspiracy theories might be though.

I want Nintendo to make a remake of the original Wario Land with enhanced graphics and a remastered soundtrack performed with a synthesizer that sounds like Wario grunting to the rhythm of the OST. Can't be any worse artistically than the coming remake of Ocarina of Time.

American Christianity is too deeply invested in politics. Denomination doesn't even matter that much, it seems like there are a lot of churches that are more than willing to tell you who you need to vote for and that feels manipulative to me. It should be between you and God.

If you claim to be a Christian and love Jesus, you should treat the environment with respect because you're not showing much love when you pollute the water and soil and make people sick. Being a Christian is more than just doing good to others, it's doing good to nature.

Peter confessing his sinfulness to Jesus after he gets a big catch of fish in Luke 5 calls to mind Isaiah's declaration of unworthiness in Isaiah 6 when he saw God in his majesty in the temple prior to his commissioning as a prophet. Luke is likely trying for a similar effect:

Luke is really weird about the calling of the disciples in his gospel. He puts the healing of Simon's mother-in-law before the calling of the disciples on the seashore in 4:38-39 unlike in Mark 1 which puts the calling before the healing. Why do you think you did this?
