I like wildlife, and wildlife gardening in particular. I want to know what comes to my garden during the day and at night (moths, VC61). Amateur photographer. South-East Yorkshire, UK.

Six-striped Rustic, new to the garden a couple of days ago. This photo was taken last night. Perhaps it's the same moth. I gave up on the one from the other day because it was being awkward. Given how prevalent this moth is in my area, I'm not sure why it took me so long to trap one. #teammoth

I think that this might be my first Svensson's Copper Underwing because it had dark palps with pale tips (see below ⬇️). I tried examining the underside of the hindwing, but I can't handle a moth without fear of hurting it. I was too gentle with it, and it kept wriggling out of my grasp. #teammoth

Possibly a Svensson's Copper Underwing (Amphipyra berbera). NFG.

A photo of last year's Saltmarsh Plume, as the one I was about to pot this morning escaped. This appears to be happening quite frequently at the moment. Last week, an Old Lady and a Dark Spectacle got away from me. Both NFYs. #teammoth

This morning, Galleria mellonella (Wax Moth) was new for the year. When I was taking pictures of it, I had to catch it twice. It seems to prefer to run away rather than to fly. It's a quick little thing. #teammoth

A Frosted Orange was new to the garden this morning. I've only ever trapped one, when I was on holiday in Lincs last year, or the year before. The moth appears to be gripping a caterpillar that seems to be feeding on the Knautia stem. I don't know whose caterpillar it is. #teammoth

Though there's no mention of a Brown China-mark in my records, I was correct in thinking this morning that I had previously trapped one. Thankfully, I just learned how to search my own posts. This one was hard to photograph, but I saw an opportunity when it turned into a pancake. #teammoth

Elophila nymphaeata (Brown China-mark). NFY.

Since I'm currently having trouble finding moths, here's a Brown China-mark for #MothMonday. Mothing is disappointing when you live in a small village surrounded by farmland and very few trees. It wasn't until the end of April last year that I began trapping a decent variety of #moths. #teammoth

The Miller was new to the garden a few days ago. I must not have noticed it on the dingy white frame of the kitchen window in the morning, but thankfully it was still there when I returned home from work hours later. I was too tired to take many photos, so I only took a record shot. #teammoth

There wasn't much excitement in the trap this morning. However, there was a Brown China-mark that I thought I had previously trapped, but it doesn't seem like I have. ObsID informed me that a worn Com. Rustic agg. was an Ear Moth, which piqued my interest until it didn't. #teammoth

Angle Shades (Phlogophora meticulosa).

Another photo of yesterday's Humming-bird Hawk-moth. I placed it on a thin stem so that I could photograph its underside. Plus, I didn't have to touch the moth again; I just turned the stem around. And I didn't see it fly away, it was just gone. They're so quick. #teammoth

Humming-bird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).

I've been seeing Humming-bird Hawk-moths in my garden for a few weeks now, but they've outmaneuvered me at every turn. I simply don't have their agility. Nice that this one showed a little colour. Unlike other hawk-moths, this one didn't warm up before deciding to leave. #teammoth

When I got home from work, my wife tells me that there's a moth on the kitchen window that has been there all day. I half-heartedly go over to the window, and I don't recognise it. After potting it, I find out it's a Miller. It's a good feeling getting an NFG moth after a hard workday! #teammoth

Yesterday's NFY Burnished Brass. When I went outside to set up the trap last night, I found a new garden moth in the greenhouse: a Maiden's Blush. The previous evening, in addition to the trap in the garden, I had set a second one there in the hopes of attracting more moths. #teammoth
