I love Bluey. My kids love Bluey. I even ended up with Bluey Christmas inflatable yard ornaments this year (something I vowed I'd never do). It's a phenomenal show with witty characters and more one-liners that my kids can spout off than I can count on multiple hands and feet. But wow, kudos to.,..

Introducing Bluebox Docker: A Living PostgreSQL Sample Database
Bluebox Docker provides a realistic, continuously-updating sample database for PostgreSQL users. It automates data generation, simulating a video rental kiosk with real movie data. Users can easily…

Shoot! I'm vibe coding (SQL'ing) with Claude on my sample Bluebox database ((github.com/ryanbooz/blu...) and... it's pretty amazing... and I'm having a great time. TBF, I was never totally against using AI/Claude to begin with, time just hasn't been on my side recently. But being able to think...

Chilly morning + hot coffee + new #Techbash mug = 💯 Thanks to everyone I got to meet and connect with the last few days at @Techbash.bksy.cosial. Sorry to miss the last day, but I'm sure it's going to be 🔥!!
I can't believe it's been a year ago already that @gfritchey.bsky.social & I taught our Introduction to Postgres precon at PASS Data Summit & Bruce Momjian was able to join us for a bit. Not surprisingly, Bruce engaged with everyone afterwards, carrying on the conversation for another 30 minutes!
Hey #Techbash2025! If you're planning to come to my @techbash.bsky.social precon to learn about PostgreSQL, here's a quick rundown of the Postgres install and sample database I'll be using if you want to try and follow along. Install instructions: github.com/ryanbooz/blu... youtu.be/mxFQiIFtNM0

I was just working to make a query in a sample database more efficient when I realized something was off in the EXPLAIN plan. Apparently, somewhere along the way, I removed some GiST indexes on geography columns and... they're like important or something? 🤦🏻♂️😂

Headed to #Stirtrek2025. Always fun to get diverted because of weather. It's been quite a few days with weather related things!
Big shoutout to Hettie! She's such a force for good in the Postgres community and a works tirelessly to serve her dedicated user group in Chicago. Please consider supporting this new initiative and attending PGDay Chicago on April 25!
Please Welcome Prairie Postgres!
In this post, I want to formally introduce Prairie Postgres, a project that has kept me really busy for the past several months. The most important mission of Prairie Postgres is creating Postgres …

The bees were loving the nice, warm, early spring day. They were not, however, happy that I was trying to include them into my promo videos for the book. 😂 (They aren't normally like this, btw. I often spend a lunch break observing them closely. They're just protective in early spring)
This was a big week for me & @gfritchey.bsky.social with the release of our book about #PostgreSQL! We're both thrilled & excited for this milestone! Here's a quick introduction from my perspective on why we wrote the book & who it's for. #JustUsePostgres www.softwareandbooz.com/on-writing-a...

It is not safe to have an open bag of pretzels and Herlocher's dipping mustard around me. Fortunately, the pretzel bag was only about 1/4 full.
I did not expect to see these little ladies out and about yesterday with 4.5°C/42°F temps. But, with the first clear day in a while and 10x warmer temperatures than a week ago, I'm sure it felt like a heat wave to them too! Almost makes me believe spring will come someday! 🐝🌻

🎉🎉 #1 New Release on Amazon!!! 🎉🎉 Well this certainly is exciting... and unexpected! Introduction to PostgreSQL for the data professional, the book @gfritchey.bsky.social and I wrote, is the #1 new release in the Servers category on Amazon! And it's not even released yet!
Oh, I know it looks so sunny and nice outside at #CodeMash... But it was a balmy 4°f/-15.5°c when I woke up this morning. And, with the wind chill, it was certainly below 0°f. 🥶🥶🥶
I had a great crowd of 💯 #CodeMash attendees join me this morning to learn more about getting started with #PostgreSQL. Every time I present, the questions & interactions keep me energized, & *at least* one question stumps me & searching for answers. It keeps this amazing database fresh & new.
Hey #CodeMash, who's ready to learn about #PostgreSQL tomorrow morning? There's also a chance to get a pre-release copy of the new book by @gfritchy and me. 😀 8am in Nile... See you there!
A day and two hours later than I had hoped to leave for #CodeMash, but finally on the move to arrive late tonight! Let's goooooo!
Updating some #Postgres training for upcoming conference and internal sessions, and I never cease to be amazed at what a global community of developers can accomplish when they share the same passion for creating something useful and amazing. Today, for no specific reason, indexes are my focus...
Just used CoPilot to take a (simple) SQL Server schema script and convert it to PostgreSQL for a training example. Convert syntax, CamelCase->snake_case, SPROCs->PostgreSQL functions, & other syntax changes on function definitions. A couple of prompts and saved me 20min of manual work. #helpfulAI
Had a call yesterday with a friend that is returning to a previous company to start a greenfield project. Life-long SQL Server user that's slowly gaining #PostgreSQL experience. Without any prompting, he mentions Postgres is the likely database of choice for the new project. #JustUsePostgres

Working on some new #Postgres talks to submit to upcoming conferences. I love working through ideas, but I hate how long it takes to narrow things down to a digestible length that still has value. Any non-AI topic suggestions for new/mid-level users that you feel haven't been covered well lately?
It's the first full week of 2025. If you're a #Postgres user & aren't subscribed to these resources, check them out! Your future self will thank you! Postgres Weekly (https://buff.ly/2S4Qevz) Planet Postgres: (https://buff.ly/40koLfQ) Postgres.FM Podcast Talking Postgres: (https://buff.ly/4fLYMlN)
