Carl Giles was a fascinating man. A few months after this he was with the Coldstream Guards when they liberated Bergen-Belsen. The German camp commander got excited and kept banging on about how much of a fan of Giles war cartoons he was. Kept asking for a signed drawing. /1

Giles certainly had foresight when it came to battlefield guiding 😂

"Nobody over the last quarter of a century has done more to defeat the genuine, intolerant, abhorrent, extreme, far-right than me," says Nigel Farage, as he announces plans for the mass deportation of hundreds of thousands of people and a visa ban on anyone coming from six Muslim-majority countries

Disgusting. But you don't have to be an economic scholar to see how much the country has fallen. It's got NOTHING to do with immigration, it's everything to do with brexit and the right wing dystopia that's being crafted.

Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.” This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵 www.monbiot.com/2009/05/04/m...

Bravo, Maestro.

Breaking news: Composer Philip Glass withdrew his highly anticipated Symphony No. 15 from its scheduled Kennedy Center performance, saying “the values of the Kennedy Center today are in direct conflict with the message of the Symphony.”

In case you were wondering how that ceasefire was going… Israel bombed a wedding in Gaza today We will never forget.

What a fucking plank.

"If you don't know this is a Lovercraftian film, I bet you are really confused by it" is my favourite review so far on my short #TheBirdwatcherFilm. A few furious reviews about it this year haha. I'm not giving all the answers I'm afraid. Engage brain, go to warp speed. But it is a brexit film...

Our country is well on track to becoming the most miserable place in Europe. What an absolute shambles of a government. Starting to think very hard about my future and where might be better suited for my career aspirations.

Very Kenty.

Anemone & Rose of Nevada are two films I'm really excited to watch. Around the edges of this are a lot of other films I've really got no interest in. There's this distinct feeling amongst many of them that the celebrity aspect is bigger than the actual filmmaking... and that ain't it, for me.

BIRMINGHAM, UK is next up on the @indiehorrorsoc.bsky.social tour as #TheBirdwatcherFilm does its rounds. September 11th at THE MOCKINGBIRD. We've also got a new festival to announce next month for the North West of England so watch this space!

What do you get when you mix a volatile corporate press, operating in the name of the establishment, and a government that tries to copy the policies of an already volatile right wing party... See below. Starmer has thrown as much petrol at this fire as Farage.

Myskatonic is back at one of my favourite festivals this weekend, @hplff.bsky.social. It's nestled within the home of HP Lovecraft - Providence, RI, USA. I won't be attending sadly but the film screens on Sunday. Keep those @letterboxd.social reviews coming, I love seeing people's interpretations.

Times are out for @hplff.bsky.social's first offering of the year in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. #TheBirdwatcherFilm screens on Sunday at 12.30pm! Doors at noon. It's good to be back after our first time in 2019 with #BackwoodsFilm. We're pencilled next to some great shorts, so don't miss out!

Brexit wasn't enough. The people who believed it would be good, and have since been shown otherwise, want one more go at looking like tools. Farage and reform will oblige. Then this country can fill its full potential as being one of the most miserable places on the planet.

Every day this Summer has been a record of how Nigel Farage already runs the country. An endless cycle of hate & racism. One day boat arrivals, the next releasing ethnicity data for crimes, so we can know whether to riot if they’re brown or shrug if they’re white. Back to the 70s🤦‍♀️ #r4today

Instagram keeps taking down this post from Massive Attack. They keep posting it. I guess it what we should expect from meta. Never the less, 3D remains one of those people continuing to speak out in the current genocide against Palestinians.

Bastions of free speech ask to remove free speech. Call these people what they are - fascists. Peaceful protest banned in order to stop violent protest? Doesn't sound very democratic does it? Labour and courting these idiots.

James Ball@jamesrball.com · last yr.

Four right-wing voices – Nigel Farage, Lee Anderson, Allison Pearson and Matt Goodwin – suggest the only way to prevent rioting is to give those taking to the streets what they want. All four called on the government to ban or crack down on the dramatically less violent Gaza protests or XR.
