I'm pretty (pleasantly) surprised at the margins amendments 4 and 5 are losing by. Even Missourian Republican voters saw how much contempt the Missouri Republican Party has for them this time around.

When Blatter was going down, those closest to him were right by his side. They defended him to the end. Same with Havelange. Because FIFA is so corrupt, everyone knew you couldn't break ranks. They had to protect each other. Meanwhile, Infantino operated on an island and is losing his lieutenants.

I think UEFA have definitively won this fight. The questions now are: 1. How much did they win by? 2. Do they want to press on their advantage? 3. If so, do they want to try to oust Infantino on the promise of reform or do they negotiate with Infantino to keep him in power in exchange for reforms

The biggest reason UEFA has struggled to mount serious opposition to Infantino is they are notorious for fracturing and an inability to move as one, whereas other continents act and vote as a bloc. That this plan has made Europe actually find consensus speaks to how terrible it is.
I do wonder when people are going to start talking about the effects on women's soccer of FIFA's newest form of corruption and the on-going brinksmanship. The Women's World Cup is the tournament most under threat immediately and it's also an event that FIFA's proposed corruption can deeply alter.

The idea that trans people and the discourse would be better by women's sports leagues, teams and players staying quiet to diffuse the situation is nonsense. The actual authorities and affected parties saying "we're cool with trans women playing and there is no threat to protect from" matters.
Real Madrid don't want to pay Vini what he's demanding, Arsenal aren't going to do it and write Madrid a check and Vini has no reason to compromise. I think we're going to get a season of Real Madrid full of awesome right-footed, dribbly boi forwards before a bonkers free transfer saga next summer.

I wrote this at the time, but what was notable about overturning Balogun's suspension wasn't the decision or that it was corrupt. That is all typical FIFA. That FIFA didn't bother lying and giving a reason was the flashing red light. They think that can do whatever they want. The mask is fully off.
Infantino is one of the most corrupt, venal leaders in the history of sports and his newest plan is his most rotten yet. It's so bad that UEFA, which has let Infantino pilfer the sport while privately grumbling, is finally standing up to him. Might this be what finally stops the FIFA president?

I've been somewhat skeptical NY pulls this off, especially in a way that is replicable, but the upside is huges and the downside small. Great! I hope it works! I think this type of stuff as testing grounds for others is so valuable and potentially transformative. I wish more places were as bold.

It feels like we've seen a giant leap forward in the quality of vertical passing, long diagonals and big switches in women's soccer over the last couple of years. It's been really fun to watch and should have huge impacts on the sport going forward.
