Walmart’s policy of matching the digital price to the physical for pre-orders and then bumping it back up $10 on release day has convinced me to get a few games earlier than I otherwise would have considered. So anyway, Fire Emblem just arrived a day early. 😁

Just a chill, nerdy guy with social anxiety who likes video games, music, and tech, and wants an outlet to break out of his shell.
Ooof, looks like the RAMpocalypse has claimed the Steam Frame. Assuming it's suffering the same percentage price hikes as the Deck and Machine, that might have been tempting at the original intended price. I'll just stick with my PSVR2 and PC adapter. (Which I really should use more anyway...)
Ignoring expenditure when considering profit is madness. I seriously can't wait for this bubble to pop for so many reasons.
Okay so if you remove billions and billions of dollars of costs Anthropic had a profitable quarter? Who cares send the blog to the hogs
I'm still incredibly grateful to get effectively new episodes of Good Eats for free on YouTube. (Every week for close to a year now.) I will definitely be making this one at some point.

Not entirely sure what to play until Well Dweller on the 22nd. I want to jump into NieR Automata, but with my current gaming pace there's no way I'd finish it in time. Might join my wife and brother in Valheim's 1.0 release after not playing since... Feb. 11, 2023? What even is time anymore? 😅
That is the whole point. I don't want my car connected to the internet. I don't want a car company able to track where I go, able to report to insurance companies how I drive my car, etc. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the convenience of a modern mapping application! But I want to opt in to that.
Can you imagine - same amount of swearing But this face 🤣

This game is a perfect example of why I don't like numbered ratings. Gun to my head, I think balancing the highs and lows I'd give it a 7/10. But the peak moments are an 11/10 that are worth trudging through the 3/10 portions. Just play it. To the right person it can be an overall 9/10 experience.
Game 21: NieR Replicant Some of the highest highs in video game storytelling - this cannot be adequately reproduced in another medium - but also some of the worst side quests/repetition I think I have ever seen. All set to a god-tier soundtrack. Push through the cruft to see ending E. Trust me.
Mildly interesting to me that he seems to have shifted to bass guitar after the recent-ish Porcupine Tree majority-reunion. I miss him playing with Guthrie Govan on guitar for his solo work, though. "The Raven That Refused to Sing" album may remain an unmatched masterpiece IMO. Still a good song.

Well, that's endings A and B in NieR Replicant completed. Masterpiece soundtrack and great story/characters. Not sure what else the other alternate endings could add to it though. Also trying to decide if it's worth playing it myself, or if my time might be better spent looking them up. 🤔
Idea - Nintendo should include a "classic" control scheme in Ocarina of Time that, if not exactly replicating the original, at least is fully functional with the N64 controller.
I wouldn't have closed out on Kirby, but what do I know? Looks pretty good though, even if I've not been a huge fan of the series. Metroid Ravenous as a mid-video, not-hyped reveal was certainly a choice as well. Definitely my game of the Direct.
Oh hot damn, the Metroid Ravenous leak was real. Can't wait for that!
I think I'd rather have a Switch 2 Edition of Smash Bros. Ultimate instead of a brand new game. Say what you will about the roster being too stacked or having too much 3rd party representation, but it'll be hard to go back to a smaller set of characters.
✨ IT'S TIME! ✨ We're BACK with a new season of Into the Aether, kicking off with a 6+ hour look at FORTY (40) games for the Sony PlayStation! Listen at: intothecast.online 😘 And repost / share this episode if you're feeling spicy!! Thank you all for the many years of support.
I was worried it was going to be the new standard of $70/$80, so this is nice. Assuming the Walmart pre-order price match continues I'm all in on this. Still can't believe the 40th anniversary didn't include Wind Waker HD or Twilight Princess HD. lol
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time digital is confirmed $59.99. Expect $69.99 for physical release (hopefully Walmart continues the $10 off MSRP preorder price) www.nintendo.com/us/store/pro...
Ocarina of Time is one of my all-time favorite games, but with the remake veering closer to a 1:1 redo than a drastic reimagining I can’t help wishing they’d put this effort into something new instead. But. It looks fantastic and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t probably going to get it.
Rewatching FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I forgot just how quickly everything moves along. Only a dozen episodes in and *so much* has happened.
When it comes to game design, I internally have a distinction between being “bad” and being “wrong” that I need to figure out how to better articulate. To illustrate: NieR Replicant feels intentionally made in a largely “wrong” way even though it’s not at all a “bad” game. Does that make any sense?
Slowed down slightly but I’m now about 2/3 through book 5. It continues to be an incredibly fun read. All of the “Chekhov’s Guns” the author sets up come into play, or are at least referenced frequently enough to keep them in mind. Absolutely fantastic so far.
I’m almost ashamed to say that I haven’t read any books since finishing the Three-Body Problem series last May. That said, I just finished the first Dungeon Crawler Carl book and I am really excited for the next one. Shame that my library currently estimates a 2-month wait… 🥲
That price for the trilogy is insane. Just a couple bucks more than the third game on its own to get all three. Once again I’m kicking myself for not waiting to buy a game (or series) until I was actually ready to start it. 😅

This feels incredibly accurate, and tracks with a) having an upstate New Yorker mom and b) moving from DE to FL more than half my life ago. That warm spot in south CA is very likely my dad’s influence as well.
I’m Michigan born and raised (very far north near Lake Superior w/ a heavy Scandinavian dialect influence), but have lived in New York and Maryland, so when it says I speak like 53% of those from Michigan I’m not surprised, but the fact that I have so much overlap w/ CO + MT is mind-boggling
People: Mario Kart World needs more content and features. Nintendo: Here's a Switch 2 update to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe adding features and improving visuals. 🤷♂️ I mean, for free I'll take it, but surely focusing on improving the new hotness would be better? The new stuff isn't likely a system-seller.
A few moots shared a post about Donkey Kong 64 being recompiled for PC, so I decided to give that a shot. Especially since it makes it dead-simple to install the hot-swap mod to not need the character barrel. I spent practically all afternoon playing it. That mod makes so much of a difference!
Still thinking about Yakuza 5's taxi mini-game. That was way more fun than it had any right to be. Would make for a good standalone game if it was expanded a bit. I was a bit hopeful for that "Rideshare Stimulator" before it was revealed to be AI slop. Oh well.
Can't we collectively agree to say no to this BS? I know that the gaming "community" is highly fractured, but surely this level of absolute slop can galvanize some amount of people in opposition.
I realize that this sounds knee-jerk contradictory, but the GTA6 video was just alright. Genuinely impressive technically, but I felt nothing from it. I'm also not surprised that this was running on a PS5. I was already ambivalent on GTA6, and this did nothing to move the needle either way. 🤷♂️
Polyphia, I love y'all, but this has got to be one of the worst mixes I think I've ever heard. I'm sure it's intentional, probably ironic or poking fun at a trend I'm not aware of, but "bad on purpose" is still bad. (Flashing lights warning)
