feels like there is so much more anger in the air than there used to be decades ago, and I really believe a big part of that is that so many dumb people used to get their absurd views filtered out before it reached the mainstream, whereas now, everybody can just say dumb stuff and it becomes a thing

we’ve adopted some pretty dumb standards as a society as time has progressed, but measuring people’s actual patriotism (or any real life factors) by who they root in sports has to be among the dumbest. (disclaimer: a person rooting for USMNT)
feels like the one outcome that’s least likely for the USMNT tonight is the team winning *and* Flo not scoring. The universe usually doesn’t let these narratives fade that easily. Everything else (Flo score + USMNT wins/loses or Flo doesn’t score USMNT loses) is on the table.

there are arguments on either side of the Jamie Benn discussion. but criticizing the side that believes it's better that the two sides part ways with a strictly lineup order argument is a bit disingenuous IMO. we all should know that it goes beyond which line Benn slots in on and what the cap hit is

*whispers* getting traded out of Columbus this offseason is probably what Zach Werenski could have done to best help CBJ eventually win a Stanley Cup. a trade to Dallas would have been a win for CBJ, the Stars and Werenski, if the goal for each was strictly winning the Stanley Cup at some point.
Feels like yesterday that the Stars had a three-headed monster in the system with Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque. Wyatt is phenomenal and Stankoven got you Rantanen. Bourque was never really able to level up to the expectations, which may have been too high.

regardless of what you think of his politics, the level of composure Mamdani has with how he publicly speaks in the face of detractors and insults is one of the rarest things I’ve seen from a politician — even more so in the context of the political climate of the last decade.
they hit everybody with the "sharia" buzzword to catch your attention/fury, then delivered this uppercut. and people keep falling for the BS every time.

good breakdown here... one other thing I find interesting in this team-player-agent dynamic: Jason Robertson changed his agent to Andy Scott a few months ago. In last 15-ish months, Scott helped secure longterm deals for his clients, Wyatt Johnston, Mikko Rantanen and Thomas Harley.

re: sports, this is probably most true when it comes to contracts. teams want to sign a player but will undress him in the court of public opinion by making him appear greedy to get a good deal. player wants every dollar but also wants to appear generous. just be aware of the second angle.
