In happier news: today, I finished version 5(?) of my novel, which means I get to put it away for a month to marinate. I fixed issues beta readers found, introduced fun new stuff, and added 13,000 words to what was a too-short manuscript. #novelwriting #writersofbluesky
Last year, I had 7 acceptances. This year, I've had 4. I've submitted so much more this year, and so it can feel defeating. 191 Submissions in 2026. 119 rejections and counting. But I'm aiming higher. This year all the submissions are to paying magazines. It's all progress. But it still sucks.
Had a blast at GalaxyCon San Jose yesterday while escorting the hubs around in his Jim Henson cosplay. Steve Whitmire said the Kermit I built was "pretty good" ::squee:: #GalaxyConSanJose #JimHenson #Kermit
Death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints. It takes and it takes and it takes but it should seriously consider a suggestion box because it took the wrong 80-year-old today. #RestInLoveDolly #WorstTimeline
AI takes the creative works of artists and then redistributes them so they can be used by those too lazy to be bothered to make their own art. Isn't that Communism? #fuckai #poisonthewell #stopskynet
@analogsf.bsky.social @asimovssfmag.bsky.social I think your submissions portal needs some attention?
This book. This book I knew at a glance from some moment in my childhood, when every library book with a rocket ship sticker was worth taking home. This was my first taste of John Varley's work. This guided me on my path. I can't wait to read it all again. #booksthatbuiltus #johnvarley #scifi
I submitted to a new market yesterday and today received the jump scare of their awful AI-generated "evaluation" of my work. Avoid Soo Generis as a publisher if you prefer human work over slop. AI shouldn't be writing or editing creative works.
I submitted a story to Asimov's in January, and today I received the rejection. But it wasn't a form response! "Near miss" is how the editor put it. A NEAR MISS from Asimov's? I feel about as proud and bewildered as these cats when the cup didn't hit the floor. #asimovs #catsofbluesky
The art and the artist (the record was already scratched up, vinylphiles). #catsky #catsofbluesky #cats #caturday

I just tried to use the word "standed" in my WIP, and then didn't understand why it was flagged as a misspelling. This week may have eaten my brain.

My fantasy story, "Dance it Trippingly," is available in the latest issue of Luna Station Quarterly (www.lunastationquarterly.com/issues/065/). What could possibly go wrong becoming a drug dealer on short notice?

This is Spy Van. He inspired the novel I'm editing. Just seeing him makes me remember Boston and Hallelujah the Hills and trying not to slide down snowy hills on those crappy tires. I still miss him.
I love the Muppetize-a-movie trend, but Hot Fuzz is already the perfect name for a Muppet movie.

What to call the feeling you get when you're on version 8 or 9 of a story and you look back at V1, and realize you like it SO much more than what it's become? I shouldn't be jealous of past me's writing. It's supposed to go the other way! #benjaminbuttoning #timeisanillusion #lunchtimedoublyso
