I think my #SAGE2026 highlight is Fernandez Ginting actually made his own supervisor answer questions directed at his presentation 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Joke aside it was a massive impressive database on freshwater molluscs all over Papua

Very encouraging to see that with time the number of local authors increasingly balanced with the number of species described in herpetology. Next step is increasing the number of local corresponding/lead/senior authors 🔥 #SAGE2026
There seems to be speciation happening across elevations but we don't know why. Massive phenotypic differences, closel phylogenetic relationships. No clear barrier to dispersal so no idea yet why this happen: both ecological gradient & mid-elevation barrier seems implausible Any ideas? #SAGE2026
Not a herpetologist but my research career was kickstarted by a herpetologist supervisor and these detailed microhabitat recordings as well as heavy statistics in anything measurable is how I did my works in mammals. Great mentorship goes a long way to next generations of scientists 🙂 #SAGE2026
"Everyone wants clear story, clear concordance between genetic and morphology, everything is fine, etc you sorted the clade and happy. But if you got that, there is no more research. How do you get more funding from clear story?" #SAGE2026
I got lovely colleagues taking my picture 🥰 trying to talk about the domestication and introgression complexity of Asian Bos and why mainland SEA is extremely important for it at #SAGE2026 If anyone happen to have access to gaur, banteng, or kouprey from mainland SEA please reach out 😆
Come join us to learn how to contribute to, and use, metAaRCive, a community-curated database of published ancient animal genomes! We'll also cover best-practises for metadata reporting in #aDNA studies and how to archive sequence data on the ENA! Sign up here: docs.google.com/forms/d/1E4k...
@anders-bergstrom.bsky.social and @ddj-sa.bsky.social are hosting a workshop on September 17th to walk you through metAaRCive—from what it is to how to contribute. Open for sign-ups: docs.google.com/forms/d/1E4k...
Happy to be attending Southeast Asian conference in Evolution at #SAGE2026 in Phuket, Thailand! Only happened once every 4-5 years gathering distinct scientific community; you don't wanna miss it when it happens! Grand venue, generous goodie bag, extraordinary evolutionary biology, good food 🤌🏼👌🏼
Is it possible for Indonesia? But our economy is just too bad for any in-kind contribution especially in the political year of 2029. Also, not enough SMBE "alumni" to help 🥲 More things in your goodie bags than any country in Global North that hosted SMBE is guaranteed within the same cost 😝
SMBE rotates its meetings geographically to encourage international participation. The next two meetings will be in Copenhagen, Denmark (2026) and Quebec City (2027). For 2029, we are particularly requesting proposals from *outside* Europe and North America.

Academics: What's a journal in your field that's great? I feel like they are a dwindling breed. Criteria: (1) No APC. Supports green or diamond OA. (2) High-quality and relatively fast peer review. (3) Editors who provide real curational value and exercise purposeful agency in the decision process.
"Drawing on an analysis of over 100000 articles in ecology-related disciplines [...], we show that the shift to pay-to-publish OA has already reduced participation by researchers from many middle-income countries." nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Payment‐based open access is biasing scientific participation from the Global South in ecology
Opening access to the products of scientific research is widely considered a key step toward both fairness and better science worldwide. Since the 1990s, different forms of open access (OA) to journa...

Remember: The real freeloaders in this country are the rich — not the poor or immigrants or any other group of people vilified as scapegoats. The richest 1% evade over $160 billion in taxes every year. The United States literally has yacht and private jet tax deductions. Hello?
I know this is the internets and people be vent posting, but can you not disrespect invertebrates by comparing them to human politicians? invertebrates did nothing to deserve this kind of treatment
It was a great experience chairing S15 sympo at #SMBE2026 with @carolinapacheco.bsky.social & Cindy, but it was tainted by Anubhab's absence, which is a reminder that the world is not equally open to all. Imagine the kinds of talks we can get if the world is more open!
Very privileged to organise this seemingly (im)possible symposium with @carolinapacheco.bsky.social and the bskyless Anubhab Khan & Cindy Santander at #SMBE2026 on discussing about detecting selection on systems where model assumptions often fails. Cool works in posters as well, stay tuned!

I am recruiting a PhD student (fully funded, 4yrs) to analyze modern 🧬 and ancient 🦴 genomic data from humans and domestic animals 🐑 Please share, I am happy to chat at #ICP2026 or #SMBE2026 this summer www.uu.se/en/about-uu/...

Is stabilizing selection = background selection = purifying selection? #popgen
Not that we need more evidence of genocidal intent to recognise what we are seeing. But deliberately shooting children? That's about as clear as it gets. #Gaza www.volkskrant.nl/kijkverder/v...
Gunshot wounds in Palestinian children indicate targeted fire
Doctors in Gaza observed a disturbing pattern: children with a single gunshot wound to the head or chest, a sign that they had been deliberately targeted. This emerges from research by de Volkskrant, ...

BREAKING: Israel has closed all crossings into Gaza and halted all humanitarian aid following Iranian missile strikes on Israel. Why do Palestinians in Gaza have to pay the price for everything, (even the creation of Israel). Disgusting collective punishment.
Is "inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility" means also including institutions from countries enacting genocide? 🤔
At the intersection of research between Europe & Southeast Asia, I am still overwhelmed by how vast the divide is in the sense of research priorities and interest. I really am not sure what causes this, but the inequality is real.
New better #AdapterRemoval for your routine #popgen needs
🧵1/2 AdapterRemoval v3, a dang fast(Q) processor, is here! 🚀 AdapterRemoval v3 filters and trims high-throughput sequencing data, merges overlapping reads, performs demultiplexing, & generates detailed QC reports (HTML & JSON), and does so much faster than #AdapterRemoval v2.

I am excited and proud to introduce to you PSMC-FAC (FNR-Automatized Correction) — a mathematical method designed to optimize the calculation of False Negative Rates in low-coverage curves. Let me break it down briefly:
Do you know how much CO2 emission our supercomputer produce? Let's safe the Earth by not running jobs on Earth Day :v
