You know when you know you’re not going to like something but you give it a shot, anyway, and then it’s awful? Yeah. This poppi soda was only 50¢ and that is 50¢ more than it was worth.

Oh, good. Pouring rain. Sorry, library. No one ever considered dehumidification to be an issue when they were designing you. It's not like we have materials stored here that wouldn't do well in 70+% humidity. *freezes in my office as the aircon kicks on* At least it's a wet cold.

I did not buy a truck today. I went to look at it and the dealership wouldn’t even pass it for inspection. Yeah, thanks. No. So, I may have to spend more money than I want to. But maybe that’s not such a horrible thing. Definitely not buying new, but maybe something newer.

I’m gonna see if eating something gives me any more energy to actually do something. I’m also drinking a Dr Pepper at 9:30pm because I’m convinced I’m not going to sleep tonight, anyway. Self-fulfilling prophecy, probably.

Ugh. Writing chunks of story as I think of them is a good way to get things down, but connecting them is a pain. Usually I write like I’m orienteering. You find a spot, get to it, find your next spot… until you reach your destination. Sometimes I get stuck because I don’t know what comes next.

I think I need to take a nap. I finalized my August programming, got a form notarized (such a stupid requirement), picked up coffee/drinks, did quilt program, submitted our sales tax exemption renewal, finished 2/3 of my August newsletter. Varied and interesting day, just how I like it! But 🥱 😴

Twelve years ago today I was on my way to Scotland for two weeks. Went to Edinburgh for the military tattoo, then up to Inverness, a boat ride around Loch Ness, and learning to jig. Fort William and a trip on a steam train over the Glenfinnan viaduct, watching boats through a stairway of locks…

I know eating late isn’t good for you, but, listen, I was finally hungry and I actually cooked and that took a while. And it was real food. With actual vegetables (chicken stir fry). So, meh. Pretty tasty, all together, and I have leftovers to consume for a couple more meals.

Sometimes I think about what people from the future unearthing our homes would think of us. Particularly our pet cemetery from when I was a kid. But, like, would people think chess sets were objects of worship? With those little figurines as idols. Then again, we've been playing games forever.

I showered last night after 1am because I knew I would never get up early enough to shower this morning. My hair, sans oil and with high humidity, is now curling around my head in a little halo. 😇

Wanted a snack. Bought little pretzel sticks and wanted something to dip them in. Decided to get spicy brown mustard and that is a wonderful decision! I wanted cheese, but this provides some of that feel, somehow. Umami-y. And waaay fewer calories. Which means I can eat more pretzel sticks!

Stormed today! Not bad here that I could tell. It got dark and there was thunder, but I think it mostly went north. Weather bug said it was 7 miles NW of a town that’s about 7 miles WNW of my house, and it moved east. Hope no one had too much trouble from it.

I made chocolate pudding so I can have pudding in a cloud (cool whip) like when I was a kid. Chocolate pudding rocks, though I prefer the stuff out of the institutional sized cans. As much as I like it, if I got through one of those, I’d probably be done with chocolate pudding for a while.

I’ve had a headache for two days and the weather hasn’t done anything about it. Usually my head feels like this for those pop up afternoon summer storms, but nothing is in the forecast for a couple of days.

Stopped by work real quick to pick up my paystub. Started to leave a note for my cleaner in the morning about a guy coming to clean the carpets and realized we hadn't moved anything out of the way. So a quick stop led to about an hour of moving tables, chairs, carts, garbage cans, boxes...

I am reading the last(?) in a series and the dung’s about to be flung and I keep stopping and doing other things because I can’t deal with tension!!!! I’m not a fan of thrillers. I just want everyone to be okay. Which is really funny because it’s @allietherin.bsky.social’s Sugar & Vice series.

I did not buy a truck today. I had to go to the fabric store—in the opposite direction from the truck store—today as it isn’t open on Monday. If the truck I’m interested in is not available Monday, then I figure that wasn’t meant to be my truck.

What the hell color is Teal? I can differentiate shades one from another pretty well, but I sure can't tell you which is which! I showed some fabric at work; a girl says, "I think that's cyan." Cyan!? I thought that was a color of toner! But she's an artist, so she probably knows better than I.

Y'all ever use these uncircumcised gas pumps? Gotta push the nozzle in far enough to shove the collar back to dispense fuel... and then hold it there. These damn things don't take into consideration that my hands don't work. They need a better design. Just got gas and my hands are aching.

Responding to this as a librarian... I had a teacher who brought out the old saw "Jack of all trades, master of none" and I'll just say, my varied experiences really help my current profession! (Also, I have two masters degrees, so suck it Mr. Hunsperger.)

I suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.

Woke up with a chest that feels like someone snuck a rock into my lungs from sleeping with the window open. I took my inhaler about an hour ago and still feel shaky. Hate that. But I'm not coughing! Chest feels like the rock was pulverized to sand, still weighty, irritating, and shifting.
