A bit late 🧵. So, when looking at the Sahel, one cannot help but spot the behemoth that is JNIM, arguably the most powerful al-Qaeda affiliate atm. I personally think they are very short distance from cousin in Somalia. However, it’s Islamic State being an elephant in the room.

A bit late 🧵. So, when looking at the Sahel, one cannot help but spot the behemoth that is JNIM, arguably the most powerful al-Qaeda affiliate atm. I personally think they are very short distance from cousin in Somalia. However, it’s Islamic State being an elephant in the room.

There are rumors of Anefis parts being taken by the Tuaregs, which would severely undermine the Russian positions in other locations nearby. Losing this part of the north, that was conquered and maintained by using massive flood of resources to keep the Tuaregs and JNIM out...

Second round begins today (!). Coordinated attacks in Gao, Anefis, Aguelhok, Sevare, reports of attacks in cities surrounding Bamako (this part still in the rumors). FLA and JNIM are coming for Russia and Mali in the North. #Mali.
