Rural communities are fighting to keep hospitals open after Republicans cut Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion. Now, nearly 700 rural hospitals are at risk of closure. Congressional Republicans don’t care about our rural communities.

On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law, expanding access to healthcare for millions of Americans. These programs are lifelines for our communities, and House Democrats are fighting to protect them.

Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law on this day in 1965. For 61 years, they’ve helped millions get essential care. But now these protections are under attack. Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill enacted the largest cuts to healthcare in U.S. history. (1/2)
