From Cesare Pavese’s diaries, published after his death (by suicide) as ‘Il Mestiere di Vivere’ - the craft of living. These lines were written in 1936, while he was internally exiled in Italy by the fascist regime. 🇮🇹 (photo shows carved stone slab with Italian quotation and yellow flowering plant)

"What world lies beyond this sea I do not know, but every sea has another shore and I will arrive." - seen in a cemetery on Italian island Lampedusa, where people who die at sea are buried.

An empty boat seen on Friday in the Central Mediterranean from civil search plane Seabird 1. It is not clear what happened to those on board, though it is likely they were intercepted by the EU-backed Libyan coastguard. Almost 7,000 people were forced back to Libya between Jan & mid May.

"In this place they rest. Muslim & Catholic. Old, young. Black & white. All migrants dead in the sea in search of freedom. This monument symbolises the hope that is born, despite all of the tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea, & the salvation that is given to all peoples" - seen in Lampedusa cemetery

I spent the last two days flying over the central Mediterranean with the crew of Sea Watch’s search plane Seabird. Mass deaths continue, with IOM saying at least 872 people died or are missing there this year, while other estimates are much higher. Report soon @irishtimes.com

Writers beware 🚨 There are soooo many scams targeting writers at the moment. I’m getting 2-3 scam emails a day. I guess AI has made it really quick & easy to target us more convincingly now (most include a flattering synopsis of your work etc.) Double/triple check everything!!!
