Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions
The actions of Macquarie Uni are deplorable. They have also been dragged in front of Fair Work. The @nteunion.bsky.social uncovered they decided to go “all the way” in forcing 65 highly skilled ppl out of work when they could have achieved their objectives without this pain.
📰BREAKING📰 SafeWork NSW has stepped in to force Macquarie University to make work health and safety improvements to their consultation on proposed workplace changes. Thanks to NTEU members at MQ who spoke out about the harm of workplace changes to staff mental health and wellbeing.
Gerry Harvey was just asked if workers sould benefit from productivity gains by moving towards a four-day week. His response: — “No, no, no they need an eight-day week to lift productivity”. A reminder: Australians work some of the longest hours in the OECD.
The ACTU will taking to the economic roundtable these tax proposals: - limit neg gearing & cap gains discount to 1 property and grandfather existing for 5 years - 25% min family trusts - 25% min for all ppl with income over $1mil/pa - 25% on gas export revenue - limit fuel rebate to $20mil
I’ll be on Insiders tomorrow morning talking about proposals we will take to the economic roundtable
“The government can’t legislate for better management but what it can do is introduce programs for management & enterprise improvement to build the innovative capability of companies” My take on #management practice & #productivity debate www.afr.com/work-and-car... @sallymcmanus.bsky.social
Bosses blast union productivity comments as ‘a distraction’
Employers have roasted ACTU chief Sally McManus over her statement that poor management is driving poor productivity, describing it as “misguided” and “wrong”.

It would be nice if it were true. Employers DO NOT automatically transfer extra money they get from higher productivity to workers. In fact they have been keeping most of it for decades now.
Fantastic interview by Sally Sara with @sallymcmanus.bsky.social about the minimum wage decision this morning. www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...
'A great outcome': Union welcomes minimum wage boost - ABC listen
Australia's lowest paid workers will earn more from next month after the Fair Work Commission raised the minimum wage by 3.5 per cent. While that's one per cent lower than what the Australian Council...

Pay is going up for millions of working people. Wouldn’t happen without unions.
I think a lot of Liberals will be working from home
The Wheel of Misfortune where every prize is a cut if you vote for Dutton has been making appearances at polling booths. There is even a “Gina Rinehart special prize” where you lose everything!
Exclusive video of the good people of the south coast scoping out the area for a potential nuclear reactor which happened to be where Peter Dutton was to have his press conference. Siren, Geiger counter and all
This is absolutely happening across the country. Polling stations in marginal seats are being swamped by “Liberal volunteers” who are members of the Exclusive Brethren cult. www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...
Exclusive Brethren are secretly campaigning for Coalition
The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church don’t vote but are sending hundreds of their people to hand out how-to-vote cards.

Excellent @sallymcmanus.bsky.social on #AfternoonBriefing deftly pointing out the absurdity of the LNP claiming HECS relief is “elitist”. The rich pay their children’s university fees upfront. The poor incur debts that can last their entire lives #auspol
Rebranding alert: Peter Dutton as the all new smiley & warm Opposition leader
Hundreds of thousands of working Australians will be getting penalty rates when working over Easter. The bosses are trying to remove them. Labor has just committed to changing the law to protect them forever.
“Advance is a fake grassroots campaign run by fake ordinary Australians on behalf of extremely rich people.” @anthonyklan.bsky.social Must read piece on the agency that does the LNP's dirty work. With links to far-right climate denial, and where "facts are optional". archive.is/2025.04.17-1...

I can’t believe Peter Dutton now asking “Who do you trust?”After all the back flips, cuts & crazy nuclear policy, does he really want to know the answer?
Now employers are saying minimum wage workers should not earn enough to pay $3.94/day for lunch or to afford to rent in big cities. Albanese supports a real wage rise for these workers, Peter Dutton does not.
Dutton WILL GUT all workers rights, if given the opportunity. He proved it when his party last had control, and he proves it every day by association & his actions. His great friend is Gina Reinhart, who said Aussies should be happy to work for $2 a day. I sure as hell couldn’t be friends with that🤬
From slashing jobs in the Federal Department of Education, to witholding funding from schools not teaching what he wants taught, Peter Dutton's plan for education sounds eerily familiar...
I don't trust Dutton's backflip. I think he has those anti-worker policies (and far worse) planned. When he says "We made a mistake." he means the mistake of telling the Australian people just some of what he has planned. Dutton is deceitful, incompetent and dangerous. #auspol #AusVotes25
