Out of office message: Thanks for reaching out. We just got tickets for The Price is Right in Halifax so I will be spending the foreseeable future developing my strategy while watching reruns. I’ll return your message on December 6th. Thank you for your patience.

Hey folks, the 14yo has been interested in working with animals for a few years(but not as a vet). Possibly in rehab or radiology. Does anyone know of any university community programs that target teens interested in exploring possible careers?

Thread: I've been thinking a lot about media preservation lately, as AI-generated media fully enters the streaming ecosystem and video game companies announce that they’ll no longer be producing physical games. But I just read this, and 1/4 #booksky #librarysky

AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop

ISBNdb, a company that sources printed books for AI companies to turn into training data, tells clients “the optics problem is real.”

In other news, I cancelled Netflix account, after 10 years, because of the “300 shows using AI in the last 6 months“ thing. I’ll use the money to buy seasons of shows from when TV was still made by people.

You know, I don’t actually think there’s any point in Canada trying to negotiate CUSMA. You can’t negotiate with someone who is this erratic. Best thing we could do is stall until the midterms.

Just read this great article on @conundrumpress.bsky.social in the @lareviewofbooks.bsky.social. I’m on a new path but working with Andy and JJ at Conundrum will always be one of the best things I’ve done. Now to bring my love of graphic novels into the classroom. lareviewofbooks.org/article/andy...

Nothing in my BEd taught me how to respond to a kid shouting "Look! It's the teacher!" in the Dollarama parking lot. As awkward as in-the-wild student encounters are, I'm always delighted to see them. And today I realized I prefer being recognized as "the teacher" over "the author." Validation!

The ongoing conversation about Bill C-34 (below) is seriously one of the most thoughtful and nuanced conversations I’ve had on social media in ages. Thanks to everyone who’s weighing in. More of this!

What does everyone think of the proposed Bill C-34? I don’t want reflexive responses based on whatever part of the political spectrum you’re on, I want to know what you genuinely think. I’m torn because I think social media and chatbot use under 16 is genuinely dangerous and should be limited. But…

Had my first encounter with the new OPOR healthcare platform today and it was NOT good. My son had surgery this afternoon, and the system only sent 1/2 prescriptions to the pharmacy. The OR was closed, so called the ER in the same hospital. Again because of OPOR, they had no record of his 1/2

Just called to get ye olde landline set back up. Turns out stuffing AI into everything imaginable was the exact thing I needed to make me want to throw my smartphone into the ocean.

I just realized there are two factors that define a great hotel for me: -Reception staff that doesn’t visibly judge you when you stumble in looking like you‘re a ne’er-do-well fantasy character who just spent 3 months on the road, without shoes, fighting dragons. -Clean rooms.
