The lack or death of curiosity and the hostility to being corrected by an expert/someone with more knowledge is an ongoing crisis actively being made worse by people refusing to look things up. Don't like how people are just strait out refusing to acknowledge it too.

the chinatown in san francisco is mostly cantonese-speaking and my one friend (who speaks mandarin) has to tell anglophone people every so often that unless they're going to a sichuan place, he's about as useful as they are communication wise.
I wish I could have learned/know all the south asian/ Arabic adjacent languages to pull off this gag.

… one of the biggest movies of the summer was about a mythical Bronze Age War, and like I assume they had a couple of wars to base it off of.

It's not so much a theory anymore, it's basically a law at this point. Just assume the person that's replying to you is hostile until proven not to be.

Getting more judges on lower courts is a very doable thing and more likely to actually happen.

Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social · last wk.America genuinely does badly need a ton more judges at basically every level, & I think one way to both fix SCOTUS and solve that very real issues is to rhetorically link SCOTUS expansion to a massive expansion of the courts generally + some kind of funding incentive to states to increase capacity
Doesn’t help that with the rise of short form video a lot of influencers have made readings into a small business. The algo doesn’t help as it makes them comment on what’s trending to stay relevant and gain more subs/follows.

Really fun to be in a industry that requires a lot of personal work only to be unable to have 5 min of uninterrupted time.
Watching people swing between "Ha ha, right wingers believe anything they see on Facebook" to "Here's a static image containing an unsourced collection of words that I find credible" makes grumpy.
This is what really bugs me about this era, no one is curious anymore. We have the sum total of human knowledge at our fingertips and people just don't use it. No one wants learn anymore, or see what they think is actually true. It's heartbreaking and why I'm kinda pessimistic about people now.

In most cases arguing with a meth addict about politics is a sign that one is at rock bottom or in a less than ideal situation but apparently it’s an everyday occurrence on this site.
The other month a prominent user posted about bulling normies off this site and got a lot of praise for it. I think of that often when I see harassment campaigns and people lamenting banned users. Like you can’t preach good vibes and positivity then go and attack someone for a perceived slight.

That’s a toxic element that improving moderation would better regulate.
