Rental stores probably rescued physical media more than you’d expect. I’ve seen a number of rare VHS tapes and games, the only copies you can reasonably buy are ex-rentals.

I thought that film was going to be about giving Scrooge a complex backstory, which would be stupid because that already exists - it’s called A Christmas Carol. Taking the redemption out of a redemption story is even worse.

There was something forbidden about being a child in the horror aisle of a video store. I credit that feeling a little bit for my love of the genre. You don't get that "in a tiny museum of cursed art" feeling from anything now.

There is a live-action Rose of Versailles by one of my favourite directors that for some reason, I've never watched.

Huge local store that lasted into the 2010s. Probably run by horror buffs looking back on it. I would revive it right now if I had the money. They had a display of Silent Hill 4 for years that I didn't want to go near because I was afraid the ghost would talk. (I was very young.)

Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: A chief technology officer is worried about keeping his spreadsheets private.

This and Kowloon’s Gate were my grails for English ports. deSPIRIA is complex and text-dense so I understand, but it absolutely would've been a cult hit had it got a wider release. Starting from the first boss the enemy designs are insane.

The proportions turn out a bit whacky without a sketch, but I'm getting a tiny bit better at winging ink drawings. Starting with some of my most difficult characters was a choice though.

I’ve always thought school systems intentionally botched language studies. I realized this more when I got into French and literature by myself, and it was so much easier.
