A heady mix of broadcast radio, record collecting and software development, with added maths.
I wonder if I'm the only dev who doesn't like dark mode? Then again I have just got new reading glasses (and I keep forgetting to wear them...)
Looking forward to my first @emfcamp.bsky.social next weekend! I think most of the people who are in the intersection of people who read this and people who are going will already know this, but just saying hi for anyone else who will be there!
Today I saw a steam train (twice) and went to a record fair (twice) #winning
It's great to be living through this golden age of snooker, where matches are contended equally between players one of whom is twice the age of the other. These Worlds must rank up there for quality and consistency throughout. Congratulations, Wu!
May 1st marks the anniversary of student radio in Cambridge! CUR in various guises 1979-2010 and Cam FM since then, all one continuous society. And still "checks status page* on air!
I have reached that stage in life where I have got a storage unit. Best decision ever. No looking back now.
It's almost like Hargreaves Lansdown make their platform sporadically unavailable on days of high volatility to protect their clients from making rash decisions. Ironically this has probably been to customers' benefit. (Incidentally, I am available for high-volume high-availability consultancy work)
Come see Alison speaking at MathsWorld in London (Southwark, just behind Tate Modern), Tues Mar 31st!
Me and my favourite (by which I mean 'most portable') knitting machine will be at MathsWorld in London on Tuesday, talking about The Hidden Maths of Knitting. If you're in the area, come along! Tickets: mathsworld.com/events/Knitt...
It's the final day of Lent Bumps and as usual I'll be live on Cam FM hosting our exclusive coverage of the races! We've stacked the river with more commentators than ever before, so what could possibly go wrong? Tune in bumps.camfm.co.uk to find out! First race 1240, through to the end after 5.
Are you absolutely, definitely sure you wouldn't prefer a nice game of chess?
Sad to learn of the death of Neil Sedaka. Saw him twice in concert, a tremendous legacy of songs and a great performer. He'd discovered TikTok and had been playing there, too. RIP
I used to do a full stream of Olympics posts (often then featured by BBC Sport) but that's not how things work now. Suffice to say the first week of Milano Cortina has been great. Lizzy Yarnold should be given more presenting. Tim and Ed have been right to be enthusiastic all along. Keep it up!
Sad news. The Organist Entertains was one of the shows that I listened to when I was very little, fascinated by how radio could bring you something very different. Nigel's style was so welcoming and inclusive, no snobbery. I hadn't realised he was so young. RIP
Former BBC broadcaster and performer Nigel Ogden has died at the age of 71
I'm pottering around London today with no fixed agenda until 6ish. It's a lovely day for it! Shout if you fancy meeting for coffee or similar.
If anyone with an ear into Cambridge transport reads this - the A bus from Trumpington P&R is a great route for getting to Addenbrooke's. But it is woefully signed. Nearly all the passengers getting on at the P&R end have to ask, is this the bus to the hospital? 1/
About to get underway with a live-from-home edition of The Sam Holloway Show. Album of the week comes from. The Soft Cavalry, plus we'll be paying tribute to Bob Weir. camfm.co.uk/player from 7pm.
For the first time in ages, I'm doing a live radio show on NYE! It'll be pretty much your usual comforting installment with a quick look back at two favourite albums of the week from this year. 7-8pm camfm.co.uk/player
Traditional Christmas Day walk through Durham. This year there's somewhere open for a coffee. In another tradition, I described it to my mum using a reference that is long obsolete: in this case, "the place that used to be Radio Rentals". Kids, not sure where to begin with that one.
There's no live radio show from me this evening but I did record a little impromptu session of recent record discoveries (and a couple of old favourites). If you need to escape the festive then it's just for you! camfm.co.uk/player 7-8pm
I only ever come to the MetroCentre at this time of year now, so in my head it is permanently Christmas Eve here.
Today is one of those days where it's a shame Connections is US not UK...
Folks, I think I may have found the sign that will unite the generations and bring meme harmony to the world.
Jubilee Line delayed owing to "animals on the line". Where's Jack Straw when you need him?
I've arrived at my destination but I can't get out the car as they're playing Will Powers 'Kissing With Confidence and I have to wait until it's finished. Obviously.
Vivaldi's 'Winter' is playing and I'm triggered into panic-buying a sofa as the sale MUST END soon.
