Next Saturday, August the 8th. The last two PBS stations showing Doctor Who will be serendipitously showing the same serial. The Two Doctors. KBTC is running Parts 3 & 4 (aka Part 2) And IowaPBS is showing the omnibus of the full thing Pretty sure that’s the first time that’s happened for years

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the first broadcast of Episode 2 of The War Machines! Had those Nigerian prints never resurfaced, this would be the only installment of the story we’d have. Personally, I think it’s a rather good episode. Shame about Dodo’s departure though.

Just realized something watching Episode 1 of The War Machines for its 60th anniversary. C-Day (Computer Day) is mentioned to be taking place on July 16th, which in real life is when Episode 4 of this story was first shown.

Was going to wait to do a trial of AMC + but this intrigued me. A two part syndication edit of The Power Of The Doctor?!? The cliffhanger is The Master having successfully taken over The Doctors body. Yes she still turns into David Tennant at the end.

Well in lighter news, PlutoTV/Roku/Tubi now have a new promo for their Doctor Who channel. I was only *just* able to catch it and my phone lagged in the middle. But I quite fancy the clips used! (They used a clip from The Invasion, a story they’ve never shown!)

I was doing a Series 2 rewatch for its 20th, but after today’s news I really don’t want to touch New Who right now. Plus I’ve seen Satan Pit last year anyway. Still doing my 1966 one though. Savages Episode 3 bby

Now that they’re not making any more Doctor Who they’re legally obligated to find the 95 episodes they threw in the bin. Sorry I don’t make the rules, hand over Marco Polo this instant!

One of these is a screenshot from a recording of The Five Doctors from (likely) 1983 and the other is from 1988. Can you guess which one is which?

I do keep thinking to myself how great it would’ve been to have Capaldi’s Doctor as the final incarnation in the regeneration cycle. Just imagine the extra level of angst it brings, and it really adds to the “am I a good man” stuff. The Doctor contemplating his own mortality. Missed opportunity.

I had a silly idea and decided to edit it for shits and giggles. Here is the most recent series of Doctor Who as described by Classic Who. There’s a video for all of New Who on YouTube like this but it was made a couple years ago so I wanted to plug the gap. My main idea was the final clip!

Good news! I’ve come into possession of some tapes from WTTW from (mainly) 1984! They’re in great shape, will digitize and post on Archive.org in due course. There’s lots of great continuities that I’ll compile together and post as well!

The TV Movie first aired in the US 30 years after The Gunfighters Episode 3 aired in the UK. And 10 years after TV Movie aired in the UK The Idiots Lantern would be broadcast.

Since Sarah Jane, Leela, and Romana all got a K9 from the Doctor upon leaving the Tardis I’ve now decided that he sent Harry Sullivan a robot cat. Fe-9.

Speaking of The Claws Of Axos, I almost wish we had the studio tape for the stuff at the power complex as well because good grief that effects shot is gnarly and I kinda wish I could see it uncensored. Like his face blew up dude!!!

An interesting thing to note that I had never considered is that Retro TV utilizes the 2013 restoration of The Claws Of Axos while the Classic Who YouTube channel/Tubi utilize the early 2000’s RSC restoration.

The 2013 restoration of The Claws Of Axos which used the color from the NTSC tapes combined with the 16mm B&W film prints for an overall better quality image, though sacrificing a few precious pixels. The older restoration of The Claws Of Axos utilizing the NTSC tapes found in Canada. These tapes went through Reverse Standards Conversion to restore them to the PAL format. Though the image quality is not as good as the original PAL master.

Been enjoying The Mind Of Evil on RetroTV over the past few nights, if I’m correct it’s the second network to air this story in color (the other being KBTC) since the 70’s. Here’s a neat credit for the restoration of Episode 1 that isn’t present on the DVD

@radiofreeskaro.bsky.social Doctor Who is back on Tubi in the US! The offerings are the same as last time, so there’s a slight advantage to the Classic Who YouTube channel which has uploaded all of the partially animated ones as well (all restored) and has been uploading Orphaned Episodes too.

This week, and today specifically is 20 years since the start of Series 2, tomorrow is 60 years since The Dancing Floor aired. From this point Season 3 runs parallel to Series 2, only outlasting it by one week with Part 4 of The War Machines. Interesting!

I’ve gone and edited this scene and cut out all the bits the Australian Censors wanted cut, just for a bit of fun! It isn’t 100% accurate since it’s edited digitally instead of cutting a film print, but I think I got close enough.
