It’d be cool if things worked. I’d be happy with 50% less technology if shit just worked reliably.

Yo, somebody on AA5254 tell me what's up. Y'all are just sitting on the runway at DCA. What are they telling you? #AmericanAirlines #DCA
I loathe how airlines will release a delay decision in little drips and drabs. The incoming plane is still sitting at its origin. We are not gonna be delayed "just another 20 minutes." Flighty makes me a menace.
The travel app Flighty rules because it just told me I've flown on this exact plane one other time, back in 2024, on a completely different route. That tickles some travel nerd part of my brain something fierce.
Thought I would ✨treat myself✨ to a flight to DC instead of taking the train because I had expiring American Airlines miles burning a hole in my pocket. Alas, I did not account for weather. The delays have begun...
99% sure I just saw one of these take off from the Westchester Airport.
My newly entrepreneurial self feels this deep in my bones.
Every now and again I feel the need to pop on and vent that connecting health insurance and access to healthcare to employment is a scam. So this is that post.
There's no better feeling than being wrenched out of sleep by a clap of thunder and the pounding of rain against the window. It's an hour before your alarm normally goes off. You've slept enough to walk out to the living room and sit in a recliner and look out the window without feeling aggrieved.
Taking my two week annual vacation at the very *end* of August/first week of September is an endurance event I did not mean to sign up for.
Today my youngest brother turns 30. I told my mom all five of her sons are officially old men now (39 to 30). I think she appreciated that.
Things I believe and will continue to bring to everything I do: 1. Enterprise software should be delightful to use. 2. Meetings should be enlivening. 3. Colleagues can like each other without pretending we are a family. 4. It's cool to contribute to things (even "simple" or "mundane" things)
The cool thing about having applied to many jobs many months ago is getting a steady drip of mild disappointment delivered to my inbox a couple times a week. It's my own personal "memento mori" whisperer. "Just in case you think you're great, here's a quick reminder that you suck. Have a good day!"

Getting back into triathlon after a solid year away from any sort of structured training other than lifting ~3 days per week. I can report that one does not get better at swimming by not swimming for a year. Just in case you were wondering. Same for running. Biking, too, it turns out.
Living in wildfire smoke is obviously uncomfortable. But what I've started to realize this time around is how psychologically destabilizing it is. There's something oppressive about the haziness, the cooler temperatures, the not unpleasant campfire smell -- that is starting to mess with my head.
Squarespace is cooked. Saw my $200 renewal coming up and cancelled it. Recreated my site with Claude Code and GitHub Pages in 30 minutes.
The skill I've most honed in the last 18 months is predicting which new LinkedIn connection is going to immediately show up in my DMs with just the worst pitch.
Can't help but feel Yzerman was not really the problem. I was willing to give him a bit more time. I felt good about him being on the other side of the Larkin negotiations so now I don't know how to feel about that. Not better, that's for sure. #LGRW
Swam laps for the first time in approximately 12 months. Felt good! Later that day, big sneeze. Distinct feeling of *POP* in rib. Pain. Still sore two days later. Intercostal muscle strain? Sad. Old. Groan when move. Getting old? Never.
@shawnhickman.me I can’t imagine this is how you want to receive bug reports, but this one is so minor I thought you might have some fun with it. That’s how this works, right?
Republican candidate for office, most likely. Run the MTG play but from the other side, landing in the same place.
what do you think - his next career step will be as a youtuber / podcaster or…

“Real” vacation isn’t until the end of August. Getting a tiny taste of it, though, here on Cape Cod for the long weekend. Someone sponsor my early retirement so I can just sit here and read everyday, please.

Will tolerance for inscrutable organizational decision making go down or up when those decisions are being made by a black box AI?

I like to think this is what I would do in the same situation. I find the equivalent of this in all situations incredibly endearing.
