Love all things gardening. Restoring an art deco garden with my faithful hound Ted.

Recently I’ve had artist block, unable to start painting despite wanting to. Today I started my first painting in 4 months with help & support of artist Chris Rainham. Just a beginning but the relief of being able to paint again is fab (Check out rainhamchristopher on Instagram)

Busy day in the garden & preparing for guests arriving tomorrow. Focaccia & ravioli made so time for a bit of flower faffing with bits from the garden. 🌱

Making the most of my space with a temporary tower. Lettuce & radish at the top, herbs on shelf below, salad leaves below them & spinach / tomatoes at the sides. Economical on water too as everything drips down. 🌱

I have had to support the pear trees throughout the recent dry weather as distress was evident by curling foliage. Each tree has a recycled compost bag filled with water as a slow drip reservoir, which have done the trick. Lots of fruit now plumping up. 🌱

Hi all. I’ve been amazed at how the perennial sweet peas have coped with the heat & lack of rain here. Although coming to an end, they are still producing some beautiful blooms. 🌱

Bright pink fan shaped sweet pea blooms

Lovely first haul of damsons. They make fantastic jam, chutney & pie fillings. They can be fiddly to prep, even with a de-stoning tool- my tip is to freeze then defrost them. That makes it much easier to remove the flesh. 🌱

Whilst the big blousy dahlias are gorgeous, I do love the single flowered varieties. I love the way this bloom fades from yellow to a soft apricot colour. It is a magnet for bees too. 🌱

Morning all. Another warm day today which the dahlias are enjoying. They have been a magnet for black fly, but my trusty predators, the ladybirds & ants, are feasting on them. Have a super day everyone 😊🌱

The latest project. I wanted additional compost berths, so my daughter & I built these out of my vast pallet collection. Strong & sturdy with mesh linings they will be perfect, so I now have 7 berths. All for the price of some screws!🌱

Hi all. Back after a little break from socials whilst enjoying time with my daughter. The heatwave continues, as you can see from the grass, & Ted is still enjoying his pool.

Bild

Morning all. Hot again here today & it’s even warmer with the ovens on. Still I’ve made a lovely focaccia loaf, one of my daughter’s favourites. Picking her up from the station later & Ted is very excited. He loves when she visits. ATM he’s staring longingly at the front door.

Busy day today getting ready for my daughter arriving tomorrow. Ted is furious that I’ve emptied his paddling pool, water used on plants, so it can be refilled tomorrow. The dahlias are loving all the sunshine. This one is American Dawn. 🌱

Morning all. Another scorcher today. Tried to do some maintenance on the tomato plants in the greenhouse & sun bubble but it’s got too hot. The bees are out in force, enjoying the pond & nearby borage plants. Have a super day everyone 😊🌱

Blackcurrant Bakewell update. Pleased to say it is absolutely delicious. Vegan pastry (also first attempt at making) & filling perfect. Happy as I didn’t have a recipe, just tried adapting a non vegan one. Now all that’s left to do is try not to eat it before my daughter arrives

Bild

Just made my first vegan version of Bakewell tart (blackcurrant instead of raspberry as I’d made blackcurrant jam). Fingers crossed it turns out ok. My daughter is dairy intolerant, hence this attempt. 🤞🏻

Morning all. Another very hot day here today. Got up early to try & get some outdoor jobs done but it’s now too hot. Managed to get the thistle patch cut down as they are seeding. Gathered them all & relocated to the orchard where they can spread freely. Have a super day 😊🌱
