It's Jack Kirby's birthday! He was largely responsible for creating the very language of superhero comics and no one ever did it better. His essence is still influential, even today. In his honour, here's a few sketches I've done of some of his greatest characters.

Duke Wellington Private Eye. From The Comic Eye, an anthology of stories based around the comics biz and culture. Compiled in 2007 by publisher Mark Innes. One of my favourite jobs in the comics realm. Brush and ink, and markers, on Strathmore Bristol, with digital tones and lettering.

Roughing out some new convention sketches. Lady Death, He-Man and Skeletor, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Primal's Spear and Fang. K-Pop was roughed out digitally in Photoshop, the rest in pencil on 8 1/2x11 bond. I tweaked Spear and Fang a little in PS.

It's Canada Day! In honour of the celebration, here's an old drawing of Canada Jack, a wartime hero from the 'Canadian Whites', comics printed without colour during war shortages of US comics. Created for the publisher Educational Projects, by George Menendez Rae in 1942. Drawn in 2009.

Some more sketch cards from back in 2016. A very tough job. The pay is very low, supposedly mitigated by the "Artist Proofs", extra cards the artist can sell for better money. Unfortunately, I was never able to sell more than a few of those. Brush and ink, marker, and coloured inks on card.
