Baby Sea Turtle Hatchling On The Run! These little ones are in their eggs, buried under the sand, for about 60 days. They all hatch and erupt from the nest at once, and head for the ocean. Their instincts are amazing. Thanks to conservation, their numbers seem to be growing. Yay! #MarineLife 🦑

Big female sea turtle digging her nest She’ll lay about 100 eggs, cover the nest with sand, and return to the sea. The hatchlings will pop out in about 60 days. They usually nest in the middle of the night. This was a rare opportunity to see a slow-poke at dawn! #MarineLife 🦑

Hey, Marine Biologists! What the heck are these things? They come in strings of a few dozen of what look like animal or plant casings. Each casing is white, about 1/2 - 1” in diameter, and polygonal. They look empty, like whatever was inside already hatched. Weird. What are they? #MarineLife 🦑

The Turtles Are Coming! The Turtles Are Coming! This is the first nest of the season I’ve seen so far (Florida Space Coast). Last year had a huge increase in nesting, and hopefully this year will be just as abundant. Conservation efforts from 20 years ago are paying off! #Turtles #MarineLife 🦑

Biology Quiz: What the heck are these seeds? Found lots of these seeds washed up on the beach on central Florida's east coast. About one inch wide, they’re just starting to put out roots. I’ve never noticed them before. Does anyone know what they are? #marinelife #biology

Here’s a common sight at the beach. Smart herons hang out with fishermen, looking cute for a snack. These gray herons are pretty big, too. This one is about 3-4 feet tall. I hope he was rewarded for his patience this morning. 😋

I’ve spent a good chunk of my career relying on American science and engineering to keep me alive. Yesterday, RFK Jr. testified at the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. It was sad to see him try to destroy the life’s work of so many American scientists. He shouldn’t be in this job.
