The scientific hijinks of 18th-century putti always make me feel better about the weird nature things my kids get up to.
Just lovely putti dissecting a dog lying on a table in 1729, nothing to see here...

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.
This whole thing is a mess and I'll never give them another cent, but I am also eager to know what it means for the wardrobe of my kid's one therapist who seems only to wear t-shirts featuring the "Buc-ees" beaver.
well sure, if buc-ee's will claim a moose infringes their beaver logo & buc-ee's will claim an alligator infringes their beaver logo you better bet they're coming for an ACTUAL other beaver logo www.daytondailynews.com/local/buc-ee...
The most compelling thing to me in this image is how someone added a strip of red duct tape to adjust the height safety level. 👀
Should have mentioned this is from Day Light Songs (1968)

How was your morning? My kid exclaimed “That’s not a body!” during consecration of the host, kind of an important part of the Catholic Mass

3/3 3️⃣ The Commission says further reductions in fishing mortality (commercial and recreational) are needed, alongside action on barriers, habitats, pollution and hydropower.
The rooster eating cotton candy while riding on the butter cow carousel figure is amazing. I’d gladly have that on my wall. The “winner” is @404media.co flyer hall of shame slop.
Check out the steaming pile of AI garbage that just won $1,000 first prize in the Ohio State Fair poster contest. It's especially tragic since the 5th place, drawn by an actual human, is great. Rooster (OH fair has biggest poultry show in US) riding the "butter cow" (exactly what it sounds like).
I have a joke about Cloacina but it’s a little dirty
I have a joke about Hermes but you’d have to be pretty quick to get it.
Turns out Harvard doesn’t want to welcome students that say things like this
This one makes me really sad. The co-op (a subset of the whole Dudley community) was where some of the most glorious weirdos lived. Parties almost always involved fresh-baked bread. A countercultural, physical reminder that consulting and i-banking weren’t the only paths to pursue.
First it was the writing center, now Dudley House. This was the place where people like married veterans & other students who had reasons to live off campus found community at Harvard. I refuse to believe this was extremely costly. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...
Unsurprising that all these cuts being made to #Harvard —from the Office of Student Services to the Writing Center to now the Dudley Co-op—are happening with input from McKinsey, a firm made up of The Second Worst People I knew in college there

Connected Ohio says Ohio data centers are “the heartbeat of our modern lives.” Such groups are now up in seven states as part of the Data Center Coalition backed by Meta and other companies to promote the data center industry as public backlash grows ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/07/30/p...
Did you guys know the word “mildew” comes from an old word for “honeydew”?
Sure $200 is an awful lot of money for a tool that does only one thing. But that’s also what ten pounds of black walnuts would cost, approx 🤔
This might be the year I invest in this terribly-named but apparently quite wonderful tool 🌳 www.grandpasgoodygetter.com
Writing? At Harvard? In this economy?!?
“Closing the Writing Center and removing its leadership now sends a disturbing signal about how seriously Harvard actually takes [its] mission.” Closing a writing center or library or dept or program or university press—an attack on one is an attack on all. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

The "They're throwing away books!!!" panic is so boring and tired and irritating to me, but since this one is making people hate AI more I'll let it slide
