Really excited to have made the longlist for Renard's "Regeneration" competition, featuring poetry exploring the environment and intertwining people and nature. (And I love the William Morris "Willow" print-inspired artwork!)

Delighted to announce the longlist for this year’s poetry open call 🙌 renardpress.com/regeneration... 100 brilliant poems exploring the environment. Watch this space for the shortlist and anthology… #poetsofinsta #bookstagram #poetry

Looking forward to sharing my brand-new “Fire Breaks” sequence, a spin-off of my “Drought Thoughts” project, some crafted after wandering & pondering on the blasted Hampstead Heath a couple of weeks ago. Come and listen at tomorrow night’s Peter Barlow’s Cigarette poetry open mic fundraiser special!

🪴 🎨 ✍️ TODAY! The second Manchester Experimental Poetry and Arts Festival takes place 12.30pm to 5pm in the garden at The Carlton Club in Whalley Range, free entry. I’m going to share new stuff! I’m going to air an old favourite that doesn’t get many outings as it’s quite long and winding, riverine.

The sky is bright blue and tonight I’ll be reading brand-new poems about sticks and stones and drought thoughts and wandering and pondering in the desert and weathering storms and sitting at the edge of the world looking out to sea. Poetry at the Dusty Miller, Mytholmroyd, 7.30pm start, free entry.

☀️Was back at Victoria Baths this week to soak up the Helios installation with my writer-in-residence hat on – today is your last chance to see it; do go! Just as dusk falls is quite magical from the balcony – an orange glow creeps into the Gala Pool as the real sun outside turns in for the night. ☀️

On the bus home yesterday, I found out some fab news that I can't share yet about a hot-off-the-typewriter piece, but maybe I'll read said poem a week tonight at Poetry At The Dusty Miller. You will only know if you rock up and I let you in on the secret 🤫

📣📚Two weeks tonight: my first reading of 2026 and my first reading with a titanium hip, which you don't get to say all that often. Between now and then, I’ll be devising a complex plan to get me over the Pennines and back again, and putting together a brand-new set of poems to perform. Do join me!

It's the Spring Equinox - the first astronomical day of spring! ☀️ Longer days. Lighter evenings. Sunshine warm on your skin, birds singing, blossom in the branches.

Golden sunlight bursts through a tangle of budding trees, casting long beams of light across a mossy woodland floor. New green shoots push up through leaf litter and patches of moss, catching the glow of the morning sun. A soft haze fills the air, with a hint of warmth and life returning to the woods.

📚I’m doing a reading next month, one that was originally lined up for spring 2025, but which had to be cancelled due to the machinations of hospital appointments. It involves crossing the Pennines, so I’m girding my loins. Join me if you can, be nice to have company.
