PNW writer and musician, when my immune system allows. I'll be dancing down the street, when I get to the border. 🇵🇸✡✊🏼 https://sarahshay.bio.link/

AQI levels being reported in my city range from 88 (moderate) all the way up to 154 (unhealthy for everyone). I'm sealed up in my apartment to stay on the safe side, but goddamn what wouldn't I give for a breath of fresh air right now 😭

If you have a little to spare, please consider helping my friend Benny gain independence by being able to save up for transportation. They're an incredibly sweet, kind, generous person, and they deserve to be able to drive through a Dutch Bros when they want a little treat!

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.

And the fact that even folks who supported lockdowns immediately gave up all COVID precautions as soon as the powers that be gave them permission to 'go back to normal' demonstrated that most people will only engage in this 'solidarity' when it directly affects them.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

The most tedious thing you can possibly do when other people have received bad news about someone or something they like is butt in to say "I always thought that sucked!" Yes thank you Steve but this isn't about you right now.

If you haven't seen the Arby's logo generator, you're missing out on some quality giggles. This is my favorite so far (also my favorite Josh Ruben bit).

On a red background, a cartoon logo of a tall cowboy hat encompasses the phrase "More Horns, More Lasers," and below it in all caps, "and a bunch of guns." Below that is a photo of a disturbingly tall Arby's roast beef sandwich with horrifying cheese sauce, next to a picture of their objectively perfect curly fries.

As a kid, I figured someday there'd be technology to scan your brain and transcribe every thought you'd ever had, which I would use to write my autobiography. So I started narrating everything I did in my head, y'know, to get a jump on the book. Big main character energy. Anyway, Patrick Warburton.

You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?

I need a website where I can find out if a big deal sports game is happening on any given day. There's a bar with a real nice patio near me that's super chill on most days and completely intolerable when important sports are happening -- and the owner is an Aussie, so "important" is harder to gauge!

Oh hey, it me! My siblings can attest to how I used to watch a movie as a kid and then talk like the characters for hours afterward. I've even been accused of mocking people because I fully subconsciously started mirroring their speech patterns while talking to them. 😅

People are making fun of AOC for having a slight southern accent while speaking in Memphis but they clearly don’t know the pain of habitually and unconsciously imitating the speaking style of the people around you

This is an interesting thread. I've been really torn, because I moved to Substack right before everyone started saying "If you're on Substack you're a Nazi." The result was that I hardly use my newsletter anymore because I didn't have the spoons to move again.

I know this answer won't please everyone but: I don't expect software that I use to means test its users. In the past, when people have pushed for software (such as Patreon and Twitter) to deplatform Nazis, what has happened universally is that they begin to deplatform "extremism"...

I'm rewatching some favorite Midnight Diner episodes before it leaves Netflix, and oh my GOD the gyoza in the season two finale look so fucking good 😭
