Happy 20th birthday, Rule of Rose! Released in Japan on this day in 2006. A notorious game, its UK release was banned due to 'obscene and cruel content'. I have never played due to past trauma and squeamishness, but I've heard there's beauty in its cruelty, and the story is worth experiencing.

So, as some of you may know, GOG announced Dreamlist. It's basically a list of old games that you can vote to bring back next. If you can't find a game on the list, you can add it yourself. It's a long shot, but hey, can't hurt to try, right?

"Annual Queen Cycle 2024: Makoto Niijima" Persona 5 Makoto drawing for the day as per tradition💙 #persona #art #makotoniijima

Makoto Niijima from Persona 5. She's standing in a surprised look in front of a shattered background that reflects the many faces of her inner self. She holds her mask in one hand as it lights up with bluish black flames. In the background reflections are the drawing I did for the previous Queen Cycles as well as the ones I did when Makoto's bday rolls around. Makoto fills the shoes of one of my favorite character tropes. Intelligent and or fully capable people shackled by their need to find their own purpose and or usefulness in a group or the world around them. She feels and fears that she "can never make the bad decision" so she's always on rails, going whichever direction life takes her in the hope that it all works out in the end. Get good grades, take over your older sister's previous role as student council prez, become a police officer and follow in your family's footsteps. A weaker willed individual would've succumbed under the pressure, showing that Makoto clearly has the will but not the way. She's afraid to place her energy into something that will mean nothing. So it's fun to see that somewhere near the end of Royal (forgot where) she talks about her grades being a bit lower than usual as a way to show that she's relieving that stress a bit. In contrast to almost every aspect of her, there's Ann, an aspiring model who knows what she wants to do in the future and can socialize easily with anyone without sounding cold hearted because of her bubbly personality. Where Makoto has this robot feel to others that doesn't attract attention is is seen as a wallflower characteristic, Ann has this popular girl feel that makes people gravitate towards her, both with good and bad results (Kamoshida). Anyway, if you've read all of this gushing about Makoto, thanks for reading. I really like this character and most if not all of their traits resonate with me heavily lol

wip For context, I draw Makoto Niijima every December as a little self improvement challenge which I'm dubbing as the "Annual Queen Cycle". So there's always a guaranteed Makoto drawing lol. Might add more character to this cycle in the future... like another queen*cough*Nia🗿 #persona #art #makoto
