Yesterday, we had our inaugural Ecosystems and Global Change “away-day” meeting. Bringing together BC3's #ecology groups, we had a great day discussing past and future directions, learning more about each other’s research and of course enjoying a nice dip in the ocean. 🤝🌿⛱️🌞 #BC3research

Yesterday we participated in the Jornadas de Naturaleza - Sopelako Natura Astea. PI @ainhoamagrach.bsky.social introduced the diversity of Basque pollinators, while postdoc Estefanía discussed wild bee nesting strategies. The day wrapped up with a field excursion and a bee hotel workshop 🐝

#Leafcutter bee season begins! 😍🐝 This male marks one of the first #Megachile to emerge this year. For the past two seasons, we have installed trap nests in Gorbeia NP to measure reproductive success and explore species diversity for cavity nesting Hymenoptera.

It's currently flowering season for Armeria euscadiensis, an endemic plant found only along the Basque coast (euskal itsas krabelina in #Euskara). A few pollinators were enjoying the view as well. 🌿

Busy spring in the lab. 🌼 Here, post doc @luisjachueca.bsky.social extracts the guts of Bombus pascuorum (the common carder bee), collected by the team in Gorbeia Natural Park last season. We're curious to investigate its microbiome composition, diversity and much, much more... 🧬🐝
