Typhoon Dolphin is currently intensifying, likely for the last time, before it will move over lower OHC waters for good and then makes landfall tmrw. Most obj. fixes are responding to this deepening core convection with estimates of 80-90 kts. Recent subj. fixes being mostly 90 knots.

Enjoy these extremely high-res images of Typhoon Dolphin's landfall on Okinawa made from Polar Orbit by NOAA-21. The intensity at the time was 165 km/h (105 mph) and a MSLP of 951 mbar.

Last Nite MetOP B & C made their customary consecutive passes over Typhoon Dolphin, capturing the storm near its closest appraoch to the islands of Yoronjima and Okinoerabujima. These also capture the evolution of an intense CB on the south side, tugging the core that direction.

This morning american, chinese and japanese satellits all took MW images of Dolphin while it was very near the island of Okinawa. All depicting a compact inner eyewall, stronger on the east side then west side, surrounded by a moat & then a partial outer concentric band.

After having alraedy dived for Okinawa earlier, Typhoon Dolphin has now also dived for Kume Island and stalled. Thankfully radar and surface obs indicate that the worst winds have just about stayed off-shore. 10 mim nean winds of 100 km/h (63 mph) being measured in Kitahara.

HC near the Ryukyu islands with improving sat presentation as it closes in on its passage through Okinoerabujima and Tokunoshima. Eyewall looking quite solid on the Naze radar. Prolly gonna be a direct hit for both islands.

An impressive supercell is ongoing near the town of Kętrzyn in NE Poland rn. After having undergone a cycle following cell mergers it again shows high radar velocities but mainly on the outflow side. Large to very large hail, damaging winds and perhaps even a tornado all possible

Typhoon Dolphin is now showing some signs of recovery after having weakened down 80 kts. Near the Ryukyu islands Dolphin should encoutnter an area of higher OHC and propably allowing it to regain some intensity, tho before this it will have to traverse an area of low OHC.

Despite an environment that on the surface continues to appear favourable, Typhoon Dolphin has once again taken a significant hit since yesterday and the satellite presentation significantly degraded. JTWC fixed the intensity at 165 km/h (105 mph) but even this may this may be placed too high.

Some more very datailed polar orbitting satellites of Typhoon Dolphin from this afternoon. You can see that the eyewall is eroded on the west side, similar to what was shwon on MW images. This is symptomatic of dry air entrainment occurring from the west.

Recent MW images of Typhoon Dolphin show that the outer concentric banding has been largely eroded. Therefor another attempt at eyewall replacement seems unlikely, at least for now. Also shows some erosion of the eyewall in the SW and a moat of dry air aroudn the inner core.

During the morning hours only MetOp B & C made passes over Typhoon dolphin, capturing the storm in infrared at about twice the resolution of geostationary satellites. The cloud debris that can be seen in the eye is related to mesovortices. 25°C isn't the actual eye temperature

Some VIIRS images of Typhoon Dolphin from the overnight period (UTC). These were made while the storm was strengthening to its fifth peak of 215 km/h (130 mph). During that process strong convective bursts pinched the briefly shut, captured here in amazing detail.

This morning WSF-M1 made HRES microwave images of Typhoon Dolphin while the eye was more or less directly over the uninhabited North Iwo Jima island. This was right around the storms 5th peak as a 215 km/h (130 mph) C4 SSHSWS (according to JTWC estimates).

Since my last update yesterday, Typhoon Dolphin reached its fifth peak, briefly becoming a cat 4 SSHWS again this morning, likely aided by an area of higher OHC waters. JTWC progs weakening to 185 km/h (115 mph) and than maintanence through landfall in Okinawa on Friday (UTC).

Eearlier today NOAA-20 took these amazing images of Typhoon Dolphin at a resolution of around 375 meter (peak resolution at nadir), while it was rebounding due to its passage over higher OHC waters. Shortly thereafter JTWC upped the intensity again to 95 kts (175 kph, 110 mph) from 90 kts.

Posting this late but last nite the Spaceborne Ku Band radar aboard China's FengYun-3G Leo satellite managed to fully capture Typhoon Dolphin's core for the second time. Notice that the inner eyewall is open to the south (upshear) and the outer band also weaker in the southeast quadrant

Passing over an area of higher oceanic potential today has re-invigorated the core convection of Typhoon Dolphin. As a result JTWC has increased the intensity slightly to 95 knots (from 90). Of course this also re-invigorates the outer concentric banding. Shear should momentarily increase tonight.

Finally the last POS image from today taken about 12 hours later as Typhoon Dolphin gradually decays over the northwestern Pacific. By that time it had alraedy weakened to 205 km/h (125 mph), actually was closer in time to the 18Z fix of 195 km/h (120 mph) 945 mbar.

Typhoon Dolphin has now well and truly entered the slow dying phase of its life. Despite still being embedded in low VWS and having good outflow aloft, Dolphin is running out of fuel over lower oceanic potential waters. Dolphin is also at least trying to have another ERC.

This is propably the best image of Typhoon Dolphin that was taken by polar orbitting satellites this afternoon. Some call this look the truck tire look, I honestly prefer to call it a donut look, because truck tire sounds so demeaning.

Typhoon Dolphin has now wrapped up its third eyewall replacement and has taken on what I like to call the donut shape. JTWC progs the system to gradually decay from now as it heads for Japan's Vulcano and then Ryukyu islands. Wouldn't rule out a slight (short-term) rebound tho.

Decent severe weather threat tomorrow across Poland and (later on) into northeastern Europe. Storms could be capable of large to very large hail, (especially later in the Baltics) severe wind gusts and perhaps a tornado or two. A strong one cannot be entirely ruled out. #EUwx

We have finally been blessed with some hi-res MW images of Super Typhoon Dolphin. It does not seem like the cycle is proceeding well. Notably the outer banding has waned, particularly on the south side, while the inner eyewall also seems slightly weakened, especially on that same south side

Overnight multiple polar orbiting satellites captured Super Typhoon Dolphin during its second peak as a Category 5 SSHWS (third peak overall). While the CDO is less well defined then during the first C5 peak, the eye was very warm at around 22°C.

Last evening both MetOP-B and C passed almost direclty over Super Typhoon Dolphin and took near Bullseye high-res AVHRR/3 images. This was around the time where Violent Typhoon Dolphin reached its third peak (acc to JTWC est.) as a 260 km/h (160 mph) category 5 on the SSHWS.

Last evening Super Typhoon Dolphin reached its third overall peak and second category 5 peak. Since JTWC maintained the intensity at 140 kts. This peak has now however been cut short as Dolphin is undergoing yet another ERC, the signs of which are now truly becoming appearent.

Finally here is another pair of very high-res VIIRS images of Super Typhoon Dolphin during the middle of the cycle. It's eye staying half open virtually all throughout. The second image utilizing its amazing DNB channel that literally turns day to night.
