Why I am failing at successfully thriving in the 21st century: 1) I hold the opinion of experts higher than the opinion of some rando on social media. 2) Self-promotion is anathema to my soul.
Point 1,264,378 for properly funding education from kindergarten to at least the end of postsecondary studies..
People in this country used to be afraid of announcing to the world that they were stone-cold idiots who shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car. Now they're out here bragging about how dumb they are.
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "I'm convinced that you and I are depriving ourselves of a significant experience if our relationship remains so impersonal. Why not come round to see me sometime? We might not do so badly talking with each other." Bonhoeffer to the student removing notices of his talks 25 Nov 32
I scored a great deal today on a second-hand book for my "Economical Bonhoeffer Reference Research Library." Very happy and on a bit of a bibliophile high, if I'm honest.
I just cleaned the BBQ while listening to Three Dog Night. It's the first real summer "thing" I've done all summer.
It's late because of my bout with kidney stones this month...but I was still able to get an issue out!
The new issue of The Bonhoeffer Bulletin is out! It's late and not the one I planned. open.substack.com/pub/bonhoeff...
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "...and this is what I call this worldliness: living fully in the midst of life's tasks, questions, successes and failures, experiences and perplexities-then one takes seriously no longer one's own sufferings but rather the suffering of God in the world." Letter to Bethge 21/7/1944
Thank you, Colorado. There are good people in your state @typhonicbeast.bsky.social (Yes, I include you in the good people.. always have.. always will!)
Colorado residents paying tribute to Canadian firefighter Nicholas Dale as his body was taken to Denver airport. "We’re all family at the end of the day and we support each other," said Josh Boyles, the chief of Genesee Fire Rescue in Jefferson County. Respect. This is what neighbours do.
Thank you so much @jamellebouie.net To my American friends, please give this video a view. youtu.be/SPs9MNl5QTg?...

Dr. Tobias Korenke, the grand nephew of Klaus and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, spoke and acted out today as the AfD was allowed to place a wreath at the Bendlerblock memorial. (Commerating those who took part in the 20 July 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life) I support Dr. Korenke.
Did you know that women played a critical role in the Jewish resistance and during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising? In this episode, I talked with Elizabeth Hyman about her fascinating work on these incredible women! thhp.buzzsprout.com/2291653/epis...

Sunday Bonhoeffer: "My Lord Bishop, I must apologize for answering so late. The foggy weather last week kept me in bed and made me absolutely unable to work." Letter to Bishop George Bell 7 January 1935
I am just so tired. It doesn't help that I still don't feel well... or I am now weeks behind on writing projects.. or that the country I live in is literally on fire. I am truly convinced we live in the worst timeline.
"A sickness known as hate; not a virus, not a microbe, not a germ - but a sickness nonetheless, highly contagious, deadly in its effects. Don't look for it in the Twilight Zone - look for it in a mirror. Look for it before the light goes out altogether." Rod Serling
A second week apology: I am sorry to say that due to a tussle with a kidney stone, I have to give Bonhoeffer Sunday a second miss. I am hoping that regular scheduled posting will resume soon.
Feeling under the weather. Moving Sunday Bonhoeffer to later this week. The Bonhoeffer Bulletin may be delayed as well.
For my American friends, take advantage of this deal. Get some great books and support a wonderful charity.
What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than by getting a bunch of my novels, with a big chunk of your purchase price going to World Central Kitchen, my selected charity for this bundle. Pay what you like (the more you pay, the more you get), and help feed people in need all over the world.
Nothing to be ashamed of Team Canada! Congrats to Morocco. Looking forward to the rest of the World Cup!
After the Ukraine wins the war, I plan on visiting and supporting the Ukrainian economy with my tourist dollars. Until then, they have my full support and solidarity.
As is my Canada Day tradition... here is my all Canadian playlist. Throw it on for the day, BBQ, celebrate and have fun! (Stay safe and well hydrated!) music.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians. Canada is far from perfect, but as a society, we aim to do better. (A good deal of us try) Be safe (it's hot out there), be kind, and have fun.

First of all: we are all safe, and the storm has passed. It's very sunny and very humid outside right now. But, I have lived a good deal of my life in the city I live in now. Until around 5 years ago, I never once, not once, received a tornado warning. Last 5 years.. around 7 warnings.
Sunday Bonhoeffer: "Things are going well here. Although there is a great deal to do, it is wonderful work, and I am grateful for it. Although things do not look very rosy in the outside world, one should be grateful for each day when we can work, live and be together." Letter to S&W Dreß 27/7/35
