playin through Ghouls n' Ghosts for the first time and ooh yeah this is good! I think my fav thing so far is the sliiight RNG in where enemies spawn, which creates this constant emergence in how levels play out. Don't know if I'll ever 1CC this though because lord it's hard lmao

Working on a short story and I am beating myself up for not having done this earlier, this is so much fun. the story's a dark comedy about this neurotic, cynical man who gets a new office job and slowly goes insane. this paragraph in particular might be one of my favorite things I've ever written

text that reads: "The new job. The interview was a shock to my systems. I was nervous, but who isn’t. They sat me in a square corner office, lit only by a single overhead incandescent bulb (the only one I’ve seen in a building full of fluorescents) and the soft glow of sunlight through shut blinds. They spent the first five minutes fiddling with the damn bulb, screwing and unscrewing it, swiveling the lamp head, trying to make it stop flickering, before ingenuity struck and they opened the blinds instead. “They” is strictly plural here: the interviewers were two men dressed in their Sunday best, squeezed behind the other end of a conference table so wide that it struck me with confusion how they even got it inside the door. I had perhaps sneaked into the liturgical east of the building, my accomplices the acolytes. Alas, the altar was sacrificial, and what proceeded was a grilling as would give Huītzilōpōchtli pause for concern. They volleyed question after question over such miscellanea as paper dimensions and workman’s comp laws. The highlight was one that asked, “how much have you worked?” I replied “eleven years”, before they rebuked: “not how long, but how much.” I begged forgiveness: how do you measure work in any unit other than time? An hour and half later, they welcomed me to the job and commended me on my resilience. I smiled and thanked God for the first true compliment of my life."

Getting an unquenchable desire to try writing some fiction. As much as I like writing game reviews, fiction/literature is where my true love lies, and I've had so many little short stories bouncing around in my head that I would love to pen down. perhaps that will be my project this week......

Something I'm realizing about myself is that I struggle to pinpoint any stable "aesthetic" or presentation on myself because it changes so much for me. part of me wants to be a cool, smart Aesthete Writer.....but then another wants to be a sweet pretty doll, + a million others. what do I dooooo.

Still have a very, very long way to go with my mental health, but I started a new antidepressant a couple weeks ago and the literal constant rumination I've had to deal with is slowly easing up. I even started reading a new book today, which I haven't done in months. we're getting there.

finally I return to my long-form articles after half a year... backloggd legend drax asks: what exactly does "arcade-y" refer to? in response, I explain my reasoning for three major fundamentals of the arcade style, each of which drives the arcade mechanics we know and love. link below!
