Week 6 of making flatbread instead of buying bagels or other breadstuffs. First time trying a yeasted recipe. This stuff is SO cheap, so easy. This is a bit more than half of the batch. I don’t have a stand mixer, a ton of counter space, or any real skills, so if I can pull it off most folks can

A skillet and a plate sitting on the front burners of an older stove with a red teakettle on the left rear burner. The skillet has two pieces of flatbread cooking on it; the plate has a stack of finished flatbread

One of my coping strategies is to get basic in whatever forms make sense at the time—enjoying simple competence at simple things. I’ve always been a cook, but this spring I started making things from scratch I’d ordinarily buy. Here’s a batch of tortillas I made this evening! Super good, sooo cheap

A brown ceramic plate stacked with freshly made flour tortillas. A cast iron tortilla press can just be seen in the upper left of the photo.

Today turned more stressful than expected…had to take this little urchin to the vet, and now she’s scheduled for surgery next week. Life’s always going to throw curveballs like this, but damn if they don’t hit even harder amidst the current chaos

The photo is of an adorable calico cat snuggled within a pile of vibrantly patterned throw pillows, looking up at the viewer

I am fine with “pointless stunts” like this every damn day. I will never tire of Dems standing up and articulating the damage for 19+ hours and counting when the other side can’t string five true words together in their defense. Keep. It. Coming.

This pointless stunt by Cory Booker is accomplishing nothing but drawing attention to the Trump administration’s wrongdoing and delaying the work of the Senate and energizing the Democratic base and, wait, hang on, let me come in again

Could not pass up the chance for a hike today — I’m not taking a 45-degree day for granted, especially not with a long Michigan winter ahead! From the info I’ve gathered, the fungi in the second picture is commonly called “turkey tail” and is a sign of a healthy, active forest ecosystem (yay!)

A shallow stream running through the woodsThe picture shows an array of interesting fungi, growing in a shelf like pattern on fallen logs in the forest. The logs are surrounded by dead leaves. The picture shows bright red berries still attached to otherwise barren branches in the woods. The picture shows a stand of thin trees in winter behind a clearing and against a partly cloudy sky

Not sure why I’m just now putting this together…but is the reason *every* proposed cabinet appointee is a literal criminal about leverage against 25A maneuvers? bc while I correctly anticipated the “worst people you can think of” part, the flavor profile is too specific not to be a design decision

Today's cemetery walk, signs of progress: A crow spotted us, flew off. 10 came back around, circled the tree right over my head, and briefly landed there, watching. We put out treats each time, but they don't go for them while we're still in the area. Maybe they're starting to associate though?

Whoo hoo bsky! This new neighborhood is hopping… I haven’t even migrated most of my follows over here yet, but already my feed is 100x more interesting and vibrant, and I’m excited to *want* to post again. Here for it!
