The right is hell-bent on diverting tax dollars into school vouchers, to the benefit of private schools and religious schools. In the meantime, many liberals continue to flirt with charter schools under the assumption that they can outcompete public schools and better serve poorer students.

Regarding the Brookings report which essentially claims that equity in school funding is a problem solved. Here are trends from regression models of "progressiveness" (high/low poverty spending ratios) and "adequacy" (spending as ratio to cost of national avg. outcomes)

Still reeling from when Robin DG Kelley was giving his lecture on education at the Marxian SIG business meeting at AERA to a packed room and he looked at me and said “and your book is fascinating, so great” — after which we saved the SIG from dissolution by getting enough new members.
