Writer/photographer based in London who loves to travel to faraway places. My novel, ENTANGLEMENT, explores the intertwined fates of two families—one Irish and the other Japanese—over nine turbulent decades. Also, I like cooking. https://linktr.ee/schweboo
I resisted buying this for Monty, my honourable dachshund. On sale in a Korean shop selling clothes for dogs. This is what happens when you stop eating dogs!
The Dora observation platform in the DMZ in South Korea. In the past, this gave spectators views over the DMZ to North Korea. Now redundant following the construction of a new observation platform.
American M48 Patton tank on display in the DMZ at the Tunnel 3 site. A reminder of the days when nations came together to stop an authoritarian takeover of an economically weaker country. South Korea now has a strong industrial base, free education and healthcare and a strong economy.
Japanese rickshaw pullers, or shafu, are highly trained, athletic, and charismatic guides who transport tourists. This one was sunning himself while waiting for business. Very happy to pose for this photo!
A moment of peace in troubled times. A moss-covered bridge over still waters in the gardens of the Sanzen-In Temple in Ohara, a rural village an hour from Kyoto
Mount Fuji from near Mishama, Japan on another mostly clear day
Japanese macaque - a member of a wild community living by the sea, seen on the Izu Peninsula, Japan
The things people will do for charity! Chinese New Year celebrations - seen on the Thai island of Koh Samui.
This is Derek, a Thai monk. Derek is the name he has chosen for farangs, as his Thai name is too hard to pronounce. A lovely man.
These hands belong to a Thai monk, who has chosen Derek as his Western name. He has no teeth, but he has the knowledge needed to help create an AI version of his face with white, shining teeth, which he found very funny! What a gentleman! I have chosen to just show his hands.
Koh Samui. A few minutes of calm after sunset. Mudflats. An egret and fishing boats waiting for the incoming tide.
Transylvania in Romania is stunning! A view from the Carpathians.
Honourable and very friendly member of the Palinka Club...in the village of Glod, Maramures county in Romania. (Not the Glod where 'Borat' was filmed!)
Shop dummies outside a uniform shop in Teresva, Ukraine. An unnerving reminder of the war that is being fought in the east of the country
The Carpathians in Romania viewed from a road near Teresva in Ukraine
This memorial is in the lobby of the Teresva Lycee, in Ukraine, remembering all the pupils who have been killed in the war - so far. It was heartbreaking to see that the two batons nailed to the plaque for the most recent death have space for another four & space for even more on the left-hand side.
Roma horse and cart on a muddy track in a part of Sighetu Marmatiei (in Romania), known as the 'Pit'. In the past, the 'Pit' was a rubbish dump. Now, the area has a thriving Roma community, struggling with poverty but also maintaining as much of their traditional way of life as they can. #sighetu
Where is this? Can you guess the continent? Country? Location?
A rainbow from a small plane flying at 2200 ft...magic! You can almost reach out and touch it...
I had never noticed the cherub on the fish by her feet until after I took this photograph! #chiswickhouseandgardens #rosary
Storm clouds gathering. Nature reflecting the world we live in today…
A photo from 1983 of 'my first flight in a glider'. We did a loop-the-loop & stall recovery from a steep climbing turn. I was in the left-hand seat. The Chilterns can be seen in the distance, and I have flown over them many times since. We were winched into the air. This is a Slingsby T21.
The Convent of the Holy Apostles in Barsana, is the largest and most impressive in northwest Romania, stands on a plateau looking down on the Iza River. It was rebuilt starting in 1993 on the site of an old monastery abandoned during the 1790s and is now home to an Orthodox community of nuns.
The West Kennet Long Barrow, also known as South Long Barrow, is a chambered long barrow near the village of Avebury in the south-western English county of Wiltshire. Probably constructed in the thirty-seventh century BC, during Britain's Early Neolithic period.
Avebury is a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles, around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, in south-west England. One of the best-known prehistoric sites in Britain, it contains the largest megalithic stone circle in the world. Ta`ken from 2200 ft
