Science communication tramp. I’ve been an informal science educator and vaccine advocate long enough to know that anti-science is not partisan. People show us who they are by who they choose to represent them.

So it seems that Ye Olde Bandwagon of Dumbassery *this week* is for those people who don’t know that NASA deliberately“crashed” dozens of probes into the lunar surface… …loooooong before Elon #Musk did it with a #SpaceX rocket. But they don’t care cuz “likes” > facts, no matter their politics.

Sometimes you have to be at the right place in your life for a book to make a true connection. This sat on a shelf for 20 years, in 5 houses, on 2 coasts before I finally cracked it open. I honestly don’t think I would have understood it as well if I had read it before I was 50. #booksky

Cover for Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley.
One of the books we kept from his library, after my father-in-law passed.

Finally got around to locating “the bat cave” at Cranberry Lake in #Anacortes. And while Millie didn’t seem to be reacting to anything inside, considering the possibly of rabid raccoons, and maybe even a coyote, we stayed out.

The sanctimonious twats telling others “read a book”, as though all books hold an equal and beneficial value, are as stupid as the people they’re trying to criticize. Lotta books out there pushing pseudoscience, antiscience, contrived versions of history, mythology as fact… #booksky

Was looking for a book to fill the void after having binged 2 NK Jemison trilogies. Then Golem & Jinni was recommended. It definitely did the trick. My wife likes scifi, but isn’t much of a fantasy fan; until now. She’s devouring this book, while I’m doing the same with the sequel. #Booksky

Book covers for Helene Wecker’s The Golem and the Jinni, and its sequel, The Hidden Palace.

I have very little confidence that our elections will be free and fair. Even if the results are reported accurately, Trump and Republicans in Congress will likely impede any Democrats from assuming office. I also don’t trust our military or law enforcement. But I’m still going to vote.

Smiling even when a good part of your life is sucking. Spiny Lumpsucker showing off his common nomenclature by attaching to the glass. Like the base of sea anemones, lumpsuckers have a spot on their tummies that they can “mold” around a surface to achieve the adhesive. #MarineLife #science #PNW

When Force Awakens, and when Star Trek, premiered in the IMAX at Pacific Science Center,we were assigned to “edutain” guests in line (for hours) with hand-held #science activities. #StarTrek fans were eager to engage about astronomy, astrobiology and exoplanets. #StarWars fans were just annoyed.

Off to hang out with marine invertebrates that show more spine, and morals, than any Republican. When I tell visitors how the “eyes” of a seastar can only tell the difference between light and dark, gonna add how they still see what’s going on around them better than the Republican Speaker.
