Actually, I've been kinda returning home in stages. I didn't retrieve my accumulated mail until today, and still haven't been grocery shopping yet. The only meals I've been able to make here are either Pop Tarts or rigatoni, & I suspect those don't cover all 4 food groups! bsky.app/profile/scie...

And *now* I'm home, officially. Got home later than expected last night, due to being delayed by extremely heavy rain on the Turnpike. Lugged everything back into the house, fell asleep until awakened by family inviting me out to breakfast, then spent rest of the day with them.

And we are definitely feeling that southernly front. Rain. Sleet. Hail. And snow. Sometimes, all in the same 20 minutes. Brr! It's cold! #FirstWorldProblems

Today's 56th anniversary of the 1st Moon landing should be the last anniversary of that initial achievement that'll be commemorated while we've still ventured no further than low-Earth orbit, since back when Apollo 17 concluded - about a day & a half before I turned 2 years old!

His work has inspired countless sci-fi fans (along with quite a number of authors, tv&movie producers, too!) to dream about an infinite number of alternative possibilities manifesting as parallel universes. Perhaps he lived on in such worlds, to witness his impact upon them. /2

I'm reminded today of Pittsburgh's smoky skies from my youth - not the 24-hour/day streetlights being required, or white shirts turning gray by lunchtime of my ancestors around here, but pretty much the tail end of our industrial era that survived up until I became a teenager.

Some anniversaries today: 81st of the Trinity test 57th of Apollo 11's launch 38th of 103°F in Pittsburgh* 32nd of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9's 21 fragments beginning to impact Jupiter *(our highest temperature, ending our longest heat wave of 13 days where the high remained 90°F+)
